American pop singer Slayyyter is currently working on her debut album and should soon shower us with some new music. But in the meantime, she decided to return to 2000s and do a cover of Britney Spears’ ballad “Everytime.” This turned out to be a great decision, as Slayyyter’s rendition of the song is stunning and does justice to the original.

While Slayyyter remained the elements that kept the original so great, she also incorporated modern sound and gave her version a dash of electro.  Hear it below.

“It’s such a beautiful and sad song, one of my all-time favorites of hers,” Slayyyter told Paper Mag. “I chose it because it relates a lot to how I have been feeling lately. It’s sorrowful, apologetic, but also has an underlying theme of feeling small and helpless. I think everyone feels that way sometimes.”

“Everytime” was written by Britney Spears and her then backing vocalist Annet Artani in 2002, being released the following year on Spear’s fourth studio album In the Zone. The song ended up becoming a huge hit, topping the UK Singles charts and peaking at No.15 on US Billboard Hot 100. The track has since been covered by several artists including Irish band The Frames, pop rock singer Sally Maer, and American singer Jackie Evancho.
