Shawn Mendes just dropped his first music video of 2022, and it’s as emotionally chilling as it gets. The Canadian singer is walking through the snowy streets of Toronto on a cold winter night and singing about his heartbreak in his latest single “It’ll Be Okay”.

This touching visual reteams Mendes with Jay Martin, who previously directed music videos for some of his biggest hits, such as “Stitches” and “In My Blood”. The young singer can be seen wandering Toronto on his own on a snowy day, with nothing but the city’s skyline to keep him company.

Mendes shared a few behind-the-scenes anecdotes with his fans before officially dropping the video. He described it as “beautiful”, but admitted it wasn’t so easy to film because the weather was freezing that night and fake snow was going in his mouth the whole time.

The freezing video perfectly captures the song’s chilling emotional state since Mendes wrote it in the aftermath of a big breakup. The song was originally released in early December, shortly after he announced his split from Camila Cabello.

“It’ll Be Okay” is Mendes’ first song since “Summer of Love” featuring Tainy, but he’s yet to announce if they’ll be a part of his next studio album.
