Miley Cyrus gave us one of her most emotional songs in recent memory with “Slide Away”, and the reflective visual for this track really hits home. It sees the young singer feeling out of place at a house party, and longing for something more peaceful.
Miley Cyrus dropped this song a couple of days after her separation with Liam Hemsworth made the headlines, and the lyrics often hint at the fallout of their relationship. There are other ways to interpret this song, and it could also be the singer’s way to explore her departure from the party girl persona that she adopted on her 2013 album Bangerz.
Many parallels can be drawn between the video for “Slide Away” and Cyrus’ party-filled visual for “We Can’t Stop”, but they are polar opposites of each other. Her latest sees the singer drifting through a house party filled with sorrow, clearly wanting to be anywhere else but there.
“Slide Away” will most likely make it to her next studio album, since it wasn’t featured on her recent EP “She Is Coming”.
