It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and holiday songs are slowly taking over the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with Mariah Carey leading the way. Her timeless classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” returned to No. 1 for its 15th week atop the chart.
“All I Want For Christmas” was released all the way back in 1994, as a part of Carey’s holiday album Merry Christmas, and it’s still ruling the charts three decades later. It experienced a true boom in the streaming era and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time in 2019 before returning to the top every holiday season since.
This marks the 15th week that “All I Want For Christmas” spent atop the Hot 100 chart, and it made history as the first song to top the Hot 100 in six distinct years. It also helped Carey place at No. 1 in a record-extending 20 distinct years, in addition to extending her record for most weeks at No. 1 to 94.
“All I Want For Christmas” isn’t the only holiday classic to make it to the top ten on the Hot 100 chart this week. Holiday songs occupied half of the top ten, with Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and Wham!’s “Last Christmas” coming right behind Carey.
