Kylie Minogue never had any trouble topping the chart in the UK, and she’s done it once again! Her latest album Tension soared to No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart, becoming her ninth studio album to do so and outselling the rest of the top five combined along the way.

Tension hit the shelves on September 22 and easily soared to No. 1 in the UK, with 53,239 album-equivalent units earned. It’s Minogue fourth consecutive No. 1 album in this country and ninth overall, making her the third female artist with the most UK number-one albums, behind Madonna with 12 and Taylor Swift with 10.

The success of Tension can largely be credited to its lead single “Padam Padam”. This song became a surprise viral hit following its release in May, and Minogue said she was both surprised and grateful after seeing it find a huge audience on TikTok.

“I’ve been so touched and amazed at people’s ingenuity, passion, and humor. We all had high hopes for the song, but I don’t think any of us expected it to take off the way it did as a viral hit. So I’m going along with the ride and we’ve had to pivot as well – because it was unexpected,” she told Music Week.
