Kehlani dropped several hints about their next album in recent weeks, and its arrival is finally on the horizon. The R&B singer announced their fourth studio album will be titled Crash, and it’s expected to hit the shelves this June.
Kehlani, who prefers using they/them pronouns, teased Crash by sharing its title, release date, and album cover, which sees the singer sitting on top of a wrecked car, with glass shattered all around them. Atlantic Records will release this album on June 21.
Kehlani gave us a taste of things to come with the lead single “After Hours”, which was released on April 4. It sees her embracing a carefree new sound and samples Nina Sky’s 2004 hit “Move Ya Body”.
This song encapsulates the spirit of the entire album and sees Kehlani crafting music that strays from pain, embracing joyful new themes and sound.
“Coming out of this pandemic to global tragedy to global tragedy to global tragedy, I was like I’m not really in a space to make something that feels super jarring or super sad. I’m very outspoken about these things, but I want my art to provide some kind of life and fun,” they told Zane Lowe.
