It’s been less than a year since Hayley Williams rocked our world with her debut solo album Petals for Armor, and its follow-up is already here. The Paramore singer surprised her fans by dropping a brand-new album this weekend that she wrote and recorded in quarantine.

Williams’ second solo album Flowers for Vases / Descansos hit the shelves last Friday, and she described it as a “some sort of detour between parts one and two” of Petals for Armor, rather than a traditional follow-up.

In a series of Instagram stories announcing its release, Williams also explained that she opted for a surprise release because strategizing about rolling out a project the right way seemed “boring and silly” after so many years in the business.

The singer also added that she wrote and performed this album in its entirety, and described this as “a career first”. Flowers for Vases / Descansos was produced by Daniel James and recorded at Williams’s home in Nashville. Its predecessor Petals for Armor was released on May 8th, 2020 and it debuted at no. 18 on the Billboard 200 chart.
