Hayley Williams sent her fans into a frenzy after announcing she’s working on some new material, and she finally gave us a taste of things to come. Paramore singer teased her first solo album with the emotional new single “Simmer”.

Warren Fu-directed music video sees Williams running through a dark forest while being chased by an unknown figure. She manages to find refuge inside an abandoned house, but the creature ends up tracking her down, and she eventually learns she was being chased by herself all along.

“Simmer” serves as the first single from her first solo album Petals for Armor, set to be released on May 8th. Williams said she’s incredibly humbled to get to share this project with the world, and promised something truly special.

“Making it was a scary, empowering experience. Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing Petals for Armor. And I was able to get my hands a little dirtier than usual when it came to instrumentation,” the singer said in a statement.
