Clowning around is back in style – at least according to the new video by Foster the People. The creative video for their latest single “Worst Nites” has been co-directed by actor Josh Hutcherson and the band’s frontman Mark Foster and it celebrates the goofball in us all.

Worst Nites shows one day in the life of a real-life clown Richie the Barber. He has a boring office job where clowning around is strictly forbidden, but things turn for the worst after his co-worker discover he’s leading a double life.

They end up chasing him around town, but this wild pursuit ends up leading to something amazing. It eventually transforms one of the worst nights of his life into an absolute triumph and the best stage performance he’s ever given.

Foster spent years dreaming about making this video and obsessively kept tabs on Richie the Barber the whole time since he wanted him to play the lead.

“We are living in a world where we’re engulfed in pressure to conform. This story is a metaphor for not being afraid to embrace who you really are. There’s an immense freedom that comes with taking ownership over what makes you unique,” he said.
