Deep Purple have been one of the most influential heavy metal bands in the world for decades, and they still have a lot left to say. The hard rock legends announced the release of their next studio album =1, which will hit the shelves later this summer.

It’s been three years since the release of Deep Purple’s covers album Turning to Crime, and they’ll soon be back with some new material. The band’s next LP will be released on July 19 via earMUSIC, and its title =1 holds a special meaning for the band.

“The enigmatic title =1 symbolizes the idea that in a world growing ever more complex, everything eventually simplifies down to a single, unified essence. Everything equals one,” reads the statement on their official website.

Deep Purple also revealed that their new album “embodies the essence and attitude of their 1970s incarnation possibly more than any other album in recent memory”, adding that the producer Bob Ezrin helped them evoke their classic sound, without relying too much on nostalgia.

Deep Purple are planning to share more info about =1 by the end of the month – the first single and official album teaser will hit the shelves on April 30.
