After making music with Chvrches for over a decade, Lauren Mayberry is finally ready to shine in the spotlight all on her own. The Scottish singer announced the release of her debut solo single “Are You Awake?”, set to hit the shelves this September.
Mayberry shared a 33-second preview of her first solo single, allowing her fans to pre-add or pre-save it ahead of its release on September 1. She can be heard singing, “Some feelings don’t fade away with space and time/ It’s a state of mind/ It’s just a state of mind,” over a soothing piano-led instrumental.
Mayberry said she’s “flip-flopping between excitement and abject terror” after teasing this side project. This announcement comes shortly after she shared an emotional post celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Chvrches’ debut studio album The Bones of What You Believe.
“For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything outside of Chvrches… But as I sail/stumble through this era of my life (your 20s really do go by in a flash, kids), it has started to feel like there are things I want to write and say and do that need to be done on my own,” she wrote on Instagram last month.
