Jimin prepared one last parting gift for K-pop fans before enlisting in mandatory military service in his native South Korea. The BTS star debuted his new single “Closer Than This” on audio streaming platforms on Friday while also sharing a music video for the song.

In a press release, BTS’ label BigHit stated that “Closer Than This” is dedicated to the group’s fans and “encapsulates Jimin’s genuine feelings for ARMY.” The song became a huge hit upon its release and topped the iTunes charts in more than 100 countries around the globe.

“As we approach the final days of 2023, we hope that “Closer Than This,” with its lyrics conveying Jimin’s love and affection for his fans, will bring you hope and warmth,” BigHit added.

Jimin shared his debut studio album, Face, back in March. He was listed as a co-writer on all of the record’s tracks alongside frequent BTS collaborators Pdogg and Ghstloop, who also produced the project.

Face had a record debut in South Korea, selling 1 million copies in the first 24 hours. The album also reached No.2 on the US Billboard 200 and became the highest-charting album of a solo South Korean artist in the history of Billboard charts.

Jimin enlisted to serve his mandatory military service in early December alongside his BTS band members. He is expected to finish his service in the summer of 2025.
