Korean music is a big deal in Asia. From China to Singapore and beyond, everyone loves K-Pop and other subgenres, but it takes a rare talent for K-Pop to graduate to mainstream all over the world.

BTS is the biggest deal in K-Pop today and here’s why.

A. They’ve Sold A Ton Of Records. Korea’s not a very big country, so it’s unusual for artists to go Platinum there. BTS’ first album, however, smashed through 1.2 million sales in its first months of release.

B. They’ve Sold Overseas. BTS has broken into both the Billboard Top 200 and the Hot 100. This is seriously unusual for a K-Pop artist. Charting in the United States isn’t something that usually happens for Asian bands.

3. They Made Their American Debut At The American Music Awards. Yes, a Korean band that people had barely heard of got to make their first US-based appearance on the American Music Awards.

That was the industry’s seal of approval. Everyone is certain that if people can hear their music, they’ll fall in love with BTS.

When a band becomes the only artist from a specific nation that you have heard of – you know they’re a big deal. That’s BTS.
