It’s been decades since the last time Billy Joel surprised his fans with some new music, but he’s finally ready for a comeback! The legendary singer teased the release of “Turn the Lights Back On”, his first new song since “All My Life” in 2007.

The Piano Man started teasing new music last month, and he even launched an official TikTok account to promote its release. He shared footage dropping hints about new music with his fans, and went on to change his Spotify and Facebook headers to read the phrase: “Did I wait too long…..”

Joel’s new single “Turn the Lights Back On” is set to hit the shelves on February 1 via Columbia. It marks his first release since “All My Life” in 2007 and his first pop release since his album River of Dreams in 1993.

Joel opened up about his decision to retire from songwriting in an interview with Vulture in 2018, explaining that he couldn’t be as good as he wanted to be.

“I was always trying to feel like there was a real progression in my work, and eventually I realized I was only going to be X good. Because of that, I knew I was going to beat myself up for not being better. So I stopped. That’s it,” he told Vulture.
