Billie Eilish has given us one of the songs of the summer with “Birds of a Feather”, and its popularity isn’t fading away now that the fall is here. She put this song back on the map with a new music video, which stirred a lot of commotion online.

“Birds of a Feather” was released as one of the tracks from the singer’s third studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft, and it explores the yearning for a lasting connection. It emerged as one of the biggest hits from the album, debuting at no. 13, and Eilish eventually decided to give it a push up the chart and officially send it to radio stations as the second single from the album.

It later peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a nod for the song of the summer at the MTV VMAs. It seems she’s trying to give it an even bigger push by releasing a music video, directed by Aidan Zamiri, which is quite a departure for Eilish, who directed most of her recent videos herself.

The “Birds of a Feather” visual sees Eilish singing in an empty office while being dragged around by an invisible force. It stirred a lot of commotion online, with many fans feeling it doesn’t match the song’s theme or the quality of Eilish’s previous high-concept visuals. Others enjoyed its minimalistic approach, saying it symbolizes the feeling of relinquishing control after falling in love.
