New Jersey’s music festival Bamboozle will not be making its big comeback in 2023 after all. The festival’s organizers announced that the event had been canceled, with the news coming just one week before Bamboozle 2023 was scheduled to happen.

This year’s festival would see Bamboozle taking place for the first time since 2012, with Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, and Motionless in White serving as headliners. The lineup was also set to include rap stars A Boogie wit da Hoodie and Trippie Redd, as well as a number of EDM acts like Steve Aoki.

However, the organizers issued a statement on Friday, saying they have made “a heartbreaking decision” to cancel the festival. The event was set to take place from May 5 to May 7.

The team behind Bamboozle didn’t disclose reasons for canceling the event, but NJ.com reports that the festival didn’t get clearance from Atlantic City authorities. In an official statement provided to the media outlet, the city business administrator Anthony Swan said that the festival organizers failed to provide them with the necessary paperwork that would allow Bamboozle 2023 to take place.

The festival previously faced all sorts of obstacles, including fan complaints, refunds demands, and poor ticket sales. According to NJ.com, only 6,000 tickets were sold for Bamboozle 2023 by mid-April.

The first edition of Bamboozle took place in 2003, and the festival soon established itself as one of the most important music events in New Jersey. It regularly attracted the biggest music stars like Fallout Boy, 50 Cent, Foo Fighters, Skrillex, Bon Jovi, and My Chemical Romance while averaging more than 20,000 visitors per day.
