It’s been a few months since Arctic Monkeys released their latest album The Car, and they’re not done dropping singles from this record. The British band just dropped an atmospheric music video for the album’s fourth single “Sculptures of Anything Goes”.

Arctic Monkeys kept things pretty straightforward in their latest music video, putting the focus on their live performances. The visual for “Sculptures of Anything Goes” shows Alex Turner and the rest of the gang rehearsing backstage before a concert and then performing this song live.

Turner compared the sound of “Sculptures” to the sound of the band’s hit 2013 album AM, and revealed that the song came about after guitarist Jamie Cook got a Moog synthesizer and put a drum machine through it.

“We wrote a song based off that, really… is the succinct answer. It started there [and then] it became a million other things. There were multiple different versions, and it ended up kind of back where it started… having had a haircut,” Turner told the Dutch radio station NPO 3FM.

The Car was originally released on October 21, 2022, and it produced singles “There’d Better Be a Mirrorball”, “Body Paint”, and “I Ain’t Quite Where I Think I Am”. The band is promoting it with a tour across Europe, North America, South America, Oceania, and Asia, which will include a recently announced headlining spot at Glastonbury.

Guns N’ Roses, Lizzo, and Arctic Monkeys will top the bill at this year’s Glastonbury, but the lineup includes many more exciting acts. Lana Del Rey, Lil Nas X, Manic Street Preachers, Wizkid, and Blondie are also the newly announced acts to perform at Glastonbury.

Sunday afternoon’ “legend slot”, which usually draws in the biggest audience, has been reserved for Yusuf aka Cat Stevens, who’ll be following in the footsteps of Dolly Parton and Diana Ross.

Artic Monkeys recently started teasing they have some new music on the way, and we finally know what they’ve been working on. The British alternative rock band announced the release of their seventh studio album The Car, coming our way this fall.

According to the band’s official press release, this record “finds Arctic Monkeys running wild in a new and sumptuous musical landscape and contains some of the richest and most rewarding vocal performances of Alex Turner‘s career.”

This announcement comes shortly after Artic Monkeys surprised their fans by debuting a new song “I Ain’t Quite Where I Thought I Am” at the Zurich Openair festival. This will be one of ten tracks on their upcoming album The Car, set to be released on October 21.

Alex Turner recently discussed the band’s new album with Big Issue, and said they “got closer to a better version of a more dynamic overall sound with this record”, adding it’s connected to their very beginning as a band when they used to operate on “pure instinct”.

The Car marks the follow-up to Arctic Monkey’s 2018 record Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, which saw them experimenting with many different genres and became their sixth consecutive no. 1 album in the UK.

In May, Arctic Monkeys released one of the most anticipated records of 2018 – their sixth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. After listening to the album for an extended period, we began wondering how this record compares to the band’s previous works. Few sleepless nights and gallons of coffee later, we brought you a definitive list of Arctic Monkeys albums ranked from worst to best. You probably didn’t ask for it, but now that it’s there, you may as well give it a look. Let’s get started.

Humbug (2009)

Humbug introduced Arctic Monkeys to new sounds and styles, but the band didn’t sound too comfortable with them on this record. Despite this, it remains an album that is worthy of your time and essential step in the band’s journey to becoming one of the most important groups of their generation.
Standout Moment: “Cornerstone”

Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018)

Maybe you didn’t expect to see Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino so early, but it is what it is. The album is very divisive since Arctic Monkeys did a lot of experimenting on this one. It is a strange record that you’ll either love or hate. We are somewhere in between.
Standout Moment: “She Looks Like Fun”

Suck It and See (2011)

For most bands, Suck It and See would be one of their best works ever. But for Arctic Monkeys, this excellent record just wasn’t a groundbreaking work, but only an album where they didn’t make any missteps.
Standout Moment: “Library Pictures”

Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007)

Released more than 10 years ago, Favourite Worst Nightmare was a fast-paced album with a hint of melancholy that cemented the status of Arctic Monkeys as one of the most exciting new bands in rock music.
Standout Moment: “Do Me a Favour”

AM (2013)

Most people will tell you that AM is the band’s greatest work that will never be topped. And they wouldn’t be wrong since this record is perfectly tailored to appeal to both mainstream audience and hardcore fans. But it still doesn’t make it the best.
Standout Moment: “R U Mine?”

Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (2006)

Because Arctic Monkeys’ debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not deserves to be at the top of our list. This isn’t a knock on the things that they accomplished later in their career or a proof that they never got better as a band. They did, but Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not was just a perfect mixture of youth, relatable lyrics, and catchy tunes. Everything fit together, and we got an almost perfect album that doesn’t have a bad song on it.
Standout Moment: “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor”

Arctic Monkeys is the indie band of a generation and Pete Doherty was the rough and ragged indie rock star we had a weird crush on growing up.

As it turns out, Doherty did not get on with the band and actually used to outright refuse to listen to them. Despite sharing a fanbase, Doherty confessed to Phil Taggart on his podcast that he “heard they were good” so ignored them completely.

“The Arctic Monkeys, I just refused to listen to them,” he recalled. “And managed to avoid them for a long long time, ’cause I heard they were good and I didn’t want to listen to them…”

He then went onto confess that he actually went as far as avoiding them in person anytime they were sharing a stage.

“There’s been a few things that have happened where I didn’t know them by sight and they’ve come to say hello and I’ve had them slung out or something, and then when I tried to go say hello I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere near their backstage,” said Doherty. “So I still haven’t met them.”

He then joked: “I dunno, that fella [Turner]. I suppose he’s a good songwriter, isn’t he? I wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with him though. He really pulls them apart in those songs, the ones that I’ve heard, you know? There’s a few embarrassed girls out there I’ll tell you now.”

And that’s your random and surprising fact about Pete Doherty for the day.

Arctic Monkeys decided to treat their fans with some new music unveiling new and previously unreleased track “Anyways.” The song will serve as the B-side of “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino” 7-inch single, which arrived on November 30th.

Those who liked the band’s latest studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, will enjoy a slow and chill feel of “Anyways,” while those who hoped for something that sounds like Arctic Monkeys five years ago, will probably be disappointed.

Hear the song below.

Arctic Monkeys announced “Anyways” back in October, when they presented a new mini-documentary Warp Speed Chic which was filmed and directed by Ben Chappell. The documentary saw Cappell following the band in the studio during the recording of their new album and witnessing the process of making songs first-hand.

In case that you didn’t have a chance to check out this interesting documentary, you can do it below.

After the release of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and subsequent tour, the members of Arctic Monkeys have taken a break and focused on other ventures. The band’s drummer Matt Helders decided to use the time off for his solo project, and is currently working on a new album. According to Helders, the record will be inspired by the works of horror filmmaker John Carpenter.

Arctic Monkeys released their sixth studio album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino earlier this year and caught everyone by surprise. The record was the exact opposite to critically acclaimed AM from 2013 and left fans divided with its piano-based sound. If you are one of those curious fans who are wondering how the British rock band came up with this strange album, you can now get a glimpse into the recording process of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino in Ben Chappell’s new mini-documentary Warp Speed Chic.

Chappell, who is the band’s longtime collaborator, found himself in the studio with Arctic Monkey as the group was coming up with the songs and managed to capture that process on film.

“I was still only hearing bits and pieces of the tunes as they were being recorded,” – explained Chappell.

Then, one year later, he went to band’s live show in Lyon, France, and filmed the finished versions of the tracks.

“I put the live songs next to my shots of them recording and found it to be quite nice,” – he added. “With that as a starting point, I then used [producer] James Ford’s instrumental mixes of the album and I put an assortment of the images we created for this album overtop, giving a glimpse into the last year and the full progression of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.”

You can watch Warp Speed Chic below.

Besides this new documentary, Arctic Monkeys also plan to release 7″ vinyl of the song “Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino,” which will contain a new B-side “Anyways.” The release is scheduled for November 30th.

The Arctic Monkeys retell the moment they first found out they’d reached number one in the UK.

In 2005, the band released “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor.” The track is featured on their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, I Am Not and reached number one in the UK. The track remained in the top 100 for 31 weeks and has become something of an indie anthem since.

Speaking to Matt Wilkinson for Beats 1, the band described what it was like to learn that they had reached number 1 for the first time.

“I would definitely categories that as a moment that felt unreal at the time,” frontman Alex Turner said. “We all went to the pub near where we’d grown up, and they announced that it was the number one record. They put the radio on in the pub and everyone just jumped up. Everybody was there – on the pool table [cheering].”

“That was one that was instant,” Matt Helders added. “All the other things, you can see them coming a little bit and prepare a bit but that was like [woah]. A complete shock.”

Arctic Monkey’s latest album Tranquillity Base Hotel is out now.
