]]>Yungblud previously collaborated with Bring Me the Horizon on their 2020 single “Obey”, featured on Post Human: Survival Horror. It was immediately clear they were a match made in heaven after Yungblud noticed many similarities between Sykes’ musical style and upbringing to his own.
In a press release explaining the meaning behind his new song, Yungblud explained that the feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. He conditioned himself to be in pain because it was safer, but he finally reached the point where he realized everyone deserves happiness, including himself.
“I was craving another Yungblud song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be ok, and encourage me to fight back against old habits and try my best to re-align myself to be better. It’s ok to find happiness, it’s ok to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song,” he wrote in a press release.

]]>This week marked a major comeback for two of our favorite former Disney stars – Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez. They both announced new songs last week and supported each other on social media before finally sharing them with the world on Friday.
Gomez delivered a club-ready girl power anthem with “Single Soon”, her first solo single of 2023. As for Cyrus, she opted for a completely different approach with a soaring ballad “Used To Be Young”, which sees her reflecting on the mistakes she made in her past.
The rest of our list of best songs of the week includes an interesting mix of different genres, ranging from indie rock to country. Zach Bryan made the cut with his recently released self-titled album, which produced A-list collaboration “I Remember Everything” feat. Kacey Musgraves.
Our list also includes new music from The Killers, Mitski, Victoria Monét, and Conan Gray, so get ready to add them to your playlist.

]]>The self-reflective video was directed by P Tracy and filmed in both London and Los Angeles. The two singers are shown wandering the streets on their own before coming together to perform the explosive final chorus in a goth-looking room with red walls and curtains.
According to Lavigne, this song is inspired by the feeling of being away from people they love—something both she and Yungblud can strongly relate to.
“We both tour and travel so much with our music careers. We def know what it’s like to miss our friends/fam bf/gf or whatever. The song is about being apart and missing someone,” she wrote on Twitter.
She also reflected on her time working with Yungblud and described him as “very funny and very talented”, adding they had “so much stupid fun” working on this track.
The deluxe edition of Love Sux will hit the shelves on November 25, and “I’m a Mess” succeeds two singles from the original album—”Bite Me”, and “Love It When You Hate Me”.

]]>The post Yungblud’s “The Underrated Youth” is a Promising EP appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>The opening track “braindead!” keeps it simple with the recurring cry of “I just wanna be pretty brain-dead.” Although the lyrics are a pop-punk Brixton nightmare, the upbeat guitar and indie rock interludes offer up the track as Arctic Monkeys’ and Slaves’ secret lovechild. Yungblud thus discretely declares himself as a millennial who like the rest of us, stayed up all night causing a ruckus and listening to AM on repeat.
The subsequent track “parents” demonstrates Yungblud’s capacity for songwriting. His lyrics are witty, confessional and morbidly dark. He raps: “My daddy put a gun to my head / Said if you kiss a boy, I’m gonna shoot you dead / So I tied him up with gaffer tape and I locked him in a shed.” He follows his satirical story up with the prominent line “It’s alright, we’ll survive / ‘Cause parents ain’t always right.” This is an anthem for teens who don’t always see eye to eye with their parents and are looking for solace elsewhere.
Yungblud’s collaboration with Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons does not disappoint. It tells the story of the millennial struggling with mental health problems but feeling invalidated by other generations who make us feel like our “life ain’t difficult.” The track embraces self-pity when it’s needed but ultimately it gives space to and validates the “underrated youth’s” mental health struggles.
The theme of struggle continues into “casual sabotage”. The album’s almost-titular track, “hope for the underrated youth”, however, gives hope that we can mitigate our struggles with optimism. Yungblud shapes up to be the Jesus of Suburbia’s emotionally-evolved older brother with angsty lyrics that give room for understanding.
The record’s closing track “waiting on the weekend” is another two-minute tease. It’s softer, gentler, and hints at Yungblud’s ability to flit between genres and explore different angles of songwriting. Should Yungblud followup with a full-length album, we’d be interested to hear more of this more candid, acoustic sound.
Overall, the underrated youth is a promising EP from pop-punk’s newest loudmouth. It is heavy on the attitude but also suggests that Yungblud has more to him than meets the eye. And we are certainly intrigued.

]]>In an earlier interview with NME, the rock musician confessed that he believes the genre to be “on life support.” When asked by the media platform whether he believes this to be the case now, Yungblud backtracked.
“No, I think there’s been a re-awakening. I think bands like Bring Me the Horizon and artists like Billie Eilish, or artists like Juice WRLD are bringing it back to youth culture,” he explained. “And playing live instruments on stage, I genuinely believe that it’s cool to play the guitar again. Twenty-One Pilots, and artists like that, are bringing the energy back.
“I do think that in America, rock is becoming obsolete. I just think that because of the energy that hip-hop has right now, it’s almost overtaken it. Because at the end of the day, hip-hop is the new rock. It provides that sense of liberation, energy, and just outright freedom that rock used to.”
He then added: “My goal and my ambition is to make good old traditional rock’n’roll have a sense of energy and opinion again. Because there’s no f***ing opinions, it’s just kinda guacamole rubbish.”
Yungblud is on tour this fall.

“To me this is the story of modern love in society – we are so distracted n focused on what’s next we fail to see what’s actually in front of us. We don’t realize how much we depend on something till it’s taken away,” explained Yungblud.
Halsey had nothing but words of praise for her latest collaborator and said she had a lot to learn from him during this creative process. Grammy-nominated hit-maker reached out to Yungblud because she was totally blown away by him since she thinks they’re very similar artists.
