]]>It’s been almost six years since the release of The XX’s last studio album I See You, and they’ve mostly been focusing on solo projects in recent years. Oliver Sim released his debut solo album Hideous Bastard in 2022, and Croft followed suit last year, with her debut solo album Mid Air.
Croft’s debut created quite a splash and she even received a Grammy nod for the lead single “Strong”, but she’s ready to partner up with The XX again. She believes they’ve “learned a lot from different projects” during their time apart and are now looking forward to joining forces again.
“I think it’s quite wide open and it’s exciting to be starting again in a way. But we’ve started making some music and I’m really excited about it… It’s still pretty early [but] I still think you’ll be able to tell it’s us but I think we’re excited to move it on and keep it feeling fresh,” Croft told NME.

The xx released their most recent album, I See You, back in 2017. The record was a massive success, earning critical acclaim and making its way to numerous Best Albums of the Year lists. It also reached No.1 on UK charts, their second number one album in the country, while peaking at No.2 on US Billboard 200 charts.
Following the release of the album, the band spent much of their time touring and collaborating with other artists. Guitarist and vocalist Romy Madley Croft made his contributions to Silk City and Dua Lipa’s collab “Electricity,” while also co-writing Benny Blanco’s “More/Diamond Ring.” Band’s producer and beatmaker Jamie xx, on the other hand, produced Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus duet “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” while helping Florence + The Machine pen “Big God.”

]]>Music Declares Emergency (MDE) has been gathering signatures over summer to declare climate change as an ecological emergency. Since its launch, the campaign has collected 2,000 signatures.
The official description on the website reads: “Music Declares Emergency is a group of artists, music industry professionals, and organizations that stand together to declare a climate and ecological emergency and call for an immediate governmental response to protect all life on Earth. We believe in the power of music to promote the cultural change needed to create a better future.”
Music giants have backed the campaign, including Abbey Road Studios, The BRIT School and AIM. Now, The 1975 and The xx have joined the cause. The addition of Rough Trade Shops has helped bring the signatories into the 2,000s.
Stephen Godfroy, co-owner of Rough Trade Shops, told Music Week: “Increasing humankind’s odds of survival in the face of the growing climate crisis is the major calling of our time. If music’s worldwide audience can be made aware, can trigger unified political action, then the time to find our global voice is now.
“Music Declares Emergency succinctly focuses our working lives into a co-ordinated response – it’s time everyone signed up, it’s time we turned up the volume.”

]]>“After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel FYF Fest 2018,” said the organizers on FYF Fest’s official website and social media. “Our team of many women and men have worked tirelessly on this event for many years but felt unable to present an experience on par with the expectations of our loyal fans and the Los Angeles music community this year. We will be announcing some special local shows soon, featuring some of the amazing artists from the 2018 line up.”
Other names that were booked for the FYF Fest 2018 include The XX, My Bloody Valentine, St. Vincent, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Future, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Car Seat Headrest, and Skepta.

Although the organizers failed to offer a full disclosure on the reasons for the cancellation, Billboard reported that FYF Fest struggled with low ticket sales.
FYF Fest was established as an annual three-day music festival by music promoter Sean Carlson. The festival showcased a variety of music genres through four stages set in Los Angeles Exposition Park. Following the 2017 edition of the festival, Carlson decided to step away and hand the organization to Goldenvoice’s Jennifer Yacoubian.
