It’s been five years since Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds dropped their latest studio album Ghosteen, and its follow-up is on the horizon. Wild God is coming our way this August, and Cave described it as a “deeply and joyously infectious” record.

Wild God will be released on August 30 through PIAS, and it will feature a total of ten new songs. In addition to the title track “Wild God”, it will also include songs “Final Rescue Attempt”, “Cinnamon Horses”, “Long Dark Night”, and “Song of the Lake”.

The Bad Seeds frontman said this album reflects back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who made it and promised it will lift and move us once we hear it.

“I hope the album has the effect on listeners that it’s had on me. It bursts out of the speaker, and I get swept up with it. It’s a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious,” said Cave in a statement.

Wild God will mark Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ first studio album since Ghosteen in 2019. This double album was conceived as the final part of a trilogy, which also included the band’s previous LPs Push the Sky Away (2013) and Skeleton Tree (2016).

The Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black is hitting the theaters this year, and another iconic musician will be involved in this project. Sam Taylor-Johnson tapped none other than Nick Cave to score this highly-anticipated biopic alongside his long-time collaborator Warren Ellis.

Taylor-Johnson confirmed Ellis and Cave will be scoring this project while chatting with Variety, and said they were the only musicians she considered for this job.

“Over the years, I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realize the dream of working together. Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score,” said Taylor-Johnson.

Taylor-Johnson also had access to Winehouse’s songs from Universal Music Group and Sony Music Publishing, including her biggest hits “Back to Black” and “Rehab”, performed by the film’s leading lady Marisa Abela. That didn’t stop Cave and Ellis from composing about 20-30 minutes of music for this biopic, according to Variety.

This duo goes way back, and they’ve been working together since the 90s, when Ellis played violin on Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ album Let Love In. He later became a full-time member of the band, and he and Cave went on to score several films by each other’s side, including Lawless, The Road, and Hell or High Water.

Jack Antonoff was in charge of curating the soundtrack for the Apple TV+ series The New Look, and he did a fantastic job. The star-studded tracklist is in, and it includes some of the world’s top artists, from Lana Del Rey to Florence + the Machine.

Antonoff took to Instagram to announce The New Look soundtrack, which marks the first release from his new label Shadow of the City, an imprint of Dirty Hit. He said that he “loved every minute of re-making these wartime songs with some of [his] favorite artists” before sharing the full tracklist with the world.

“White Cliffs of Dover” by Florence + The Machine will be released as the soundtrack’s first song on January 31, ahead of The New Look premiere on February 15. This series is set in the competitive fashion world of World War II Paris and chronicles the rivalry between Christian Dior and Coco Chanel.

The star-studded soundtrack will also feature contributions from Antonoff’s frequent collaborator Lana Del Rey, plus The 1975, Beabadoobee, Nick Cave, and Perfume Genius. Antonoff’s own band Bleachers will also appear on the soundtrack, and they’re currently gearing up for the release of their fourth self-titled studio album, set to hit the shelves on March 8.

It’s been a while since Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds dropped their last studio album, and they might sound quite different when they come back. Cave recently dropped hints about their next LP and said he believes they couldn’t make “an old-school Bad Seeds record” again.

The iconic singer-songwriter recently set down with NME for an in-depth interview and discussed many topics, including the next Bad Seeds record.

“I don’t think we could make an old-school Bad Seeds record anymore where it’s basically a rock band playing. I don’t see that happening. Not that this next [Bad Seeds] record is ambient – it’s not at all – but I just don’t see us going back to that basic rock’n’roll style,” said Cave.

He also addressed the possibility of making another Grinderman record, referring to the side project that he formed with Bad Seeds members Warren Ellis, Martyn P. Casey, and Jim Sclavunos. Cave said he could see them making another record, because “Grinderman is essentially improv”, but added it’s also musically challenging since you don’t know what you’re going to get.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds haven’t released a studio album since 2019, and they’ve mostly been busy touring after the release of their latest LP Ghosteen.

Nick Cave joined forces with his longtime collaborator Warren Ellis for a new collaboration album. Titled Carnage, the album is available in digital form as of February 25th, while the CD and vinyl edition is coming on May 28th.

According to the press release, Cave wrote the lyrics for all eight tracks while both he and Ellis composed the music. The duo recorded the album during the coronavirus lockdown in Soundtree studio in London and did almost all instrumentation.

“Carnage is a brutal but very beautiful record embedded in a communal catastrophe,” said Cave of the project.

Ellis added that making Carnage was an “accelerated process,” with all songs being conceived “within the first two-and-a-half days.”

You can listen to Carnage on almost all streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis started working in the early 1990s, when Ellis was invited to participate in recordings for The Bad Seed’s album Let Love In. He then joined the band on a full-time basis while becoming Cave’s partner on various other projects.

Ellis is also part of Cave’s second band Grinderman and the duo worked on a number of soundtracks for theater and cinema. Their work on 2005’s The Proposition earned them several accolades, including the AFI Award for Best Original Music Score.

Nick Cave has confessed his respect for Kanye West and names him the greatest artist of our time.

The singer regularly hosts a Q&A session on his website, The Red Hand Files. In his most recent session, a fan asked Cave whether he likes Kanye. Cave revealed that he is indeed a Kanye fan and that there is no other musician like him.

Cave explained: “Making art is a form of madness – we slip deep within our own singular vision and become lost to it. There is no musician on Earth that is as committed to their own derangement as Kanye, and in this respect, at this point in time, he is our greatest artist.”

Kanye is often very candid about his battle with mental health and his feelings about his fans and his religion. He holds nothing back in his music and as Cave explains, he is committed to exploring all sides of his mind.

A new Grinderman album is coming our way.

According to Nick Cave, a third Grinderman album is en route, almost a decade since their last release.

According to multiple outlets, the singer-songwriter let it slip, writing in his latest Red Hands Files post that Grinderman’s two albums are “part of a yet to be completed trilogy, you might be happy to know.”

The band, which formed in 2005, released their debut LP in 2007, which was followed three years later with Grinderman 2.

In the post, Cave shared a story about Robert Fripp’s contribution to an extended version of Grinderman 2 cut “Heathen Child,” saying that the version is “Grinderman at their very best;” “recording with Robert Fripp remains one of the seismic events of my life,” he added.

“I felt as though Grinderman was laying claim to their roots,” he continued. “Super Heathen Child continues to have an extraordinary hold over me, and contains within it a deep emotional pull because it is attached directly to my adolescence.”

“Listening to it, I have that strange dizzying feeling a dream has when it suddenly becomes a reality; all that deep concentrated listening I did when I was a teenager manifesting itself over 40 years later in a Fripp solo that just blows the mind.”

Grinderman disbanded in 201 but got back together for an unexpected and brief reunion for 2013’s Coachella.

Nick Cave has been interacting with a forum of his fans via The Red Hand Files. He has been using the platform as a chance to engage with lovers of his music and answer their questions.

A fan used the opportunity to request some song advice from Nick Cave, writing: “I’m a songwriter. I’m seriously blocked. Do you have any spare lyrics I can have?”

Amazingly, Cave actually obliged and shared some of the lyrics he has been working on for a song called “Incinerator Man.”

“There is not a hell of a lot of structure to it, plus the last verse may need a bit of work – but all that aside, there is some nice symbolism in there and if you chuck on a simple chorus, like ‘Wo! I’m the Incinerator Man!’ and throw it on a lean circular chord formation, with lots of space and air, so that you can really creep the vocal and tell the story, then brother, you may be able to make something worthwhile out of it,” he wrote. “I couldn’t.”

After sharing his lyrics, Cave gave the songwriter some advice: “throw my song away.”

You are not the ‘Great Creator’ of your songs, you are simply their servant, and the songs will come to you when you have adequately prepared yourself to receive them,” he explained.

“They are not inside you, unable to get out; rather, they are outside of you, unable to get in. Songs, in my experience, are attracted to an open, playful and motivated mind. Throw my song away – it isn’t that good anyway – sit down, prepare yourself and write your own damn song. You are a songwriter. You have the entire world to save and very little time to do it. The song will find its way to you.”

He added: “If you don’t write it, someone else will. Is that what you want? If not, get to it.”

It appears that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds are almost ready to gift the fans their 17th studio album. During his recent Conversations With Nick Cave event in Melbourne, Cave discussed several things and decided to give the fans an update on the new record.

The 61-year-old musician said that the band “nearly finished” their new record adding that he thinks it will be “amazing.”

“We’ve really nearly finished a new record, I would say,” said Cave according to an eyewitness. “And it’s an amazing thing in my opinion.”

“I’m very, very excited about it,” he added.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ last studio effort, titled Skeleton Tree, landed in September 2016. The album received critical acclaim, and was described as “breathtakingly beautiful, grief-strewn record, sometimes direct, sometimes allegorical.”  It topped the charts in several countries, including Australia, Poland, and Portugal, while peaking at No.2 at the UK Albums charts and No.27 at Billboard 200.

Back in September 2008, the band also presented an extended play Distant Sky: Live in Copenhagen, which was released on 12” vinyl and as a digital download. The EP was recorded at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, and contained songs “Jubilee Street,” “Distant Sky,” From Her To Eternity,” “The Mercy Seat.”

In a recent social media post, Cave promised the fans that the canceled gigs would be rescheduled for 2021, with the new dates expected to be made official in the fall.

If you want to ask Nick Cave a question about his life or his music, you can submit your question here.
