Discovering new music is never going out of style, and this week brought countless amazing songs our way. From SZA and Bleachers to MGMT and Linkin Park, a diverse range of artists made it to our list of the best songs of the week with their epic new tracks.

SZA hasn’t dropped any new solo singles since sharing her acclaimed album SOS with the world, but that finally changed this week. She teased the release of its follow-up LANA with a new song “Saturn”, an escapist anthem about the lure of the unknown.

This week was pretty slow for new album releases, but some of our favorite indie artists still surprised us with new LPs. MGMT teased Loss of Life with “Dancing in Babylon” ft. Christine and the Queens, while Allie X promote her new album Girl with no Face with “Weird World”.

It was a great week for alternative and rock music in general, and we’ve seen several beloved bands share new music with the world. Kings of Leon dropped “Mustang”, Bleachers teased their next album with “Me Before You”, while Linkin Park paid homage to their late vocalist Chester Bennington by sharing the unreleased track “Friendly Fire”.

Norah Jones, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Kasabian, and Lil Durk also made it to our list, so grab your headphones and get ready to discover their new songs!

Kasabian has been teasing their next album for quite some time, and they just dropped some major hints about its release. The English band’s next LP will be a party-driven rock album and they’ve given us a taste of their new sound with the new single “Call”.

The Waxxwork-directed visual for “Call” was shot in Albania, and it takes the song’s title pretty literally. It shows a phone falling out of a plane and hurtling through the sky towards the ground, while the members of Kasabian appear on the screen.

“The concept around Happenings is to bring art out into the real world. We could have just done a video on a green screen or whatever but we thought, ‘No, let’s go to Albania and figure out how we get this phone to fly through the air, land, and shoot the video all live and fed to the phone,’” Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno told NME.

He also discussed the sound of Happenings with the magazine and described it as a relentless, party-driven record that could only be made today. Pizzorno added they’re always trying to make guitar music interesting and experiment with different genres, while also making sure their live gigs are a pure joy, where everyone can come together.

“Call” was released as the second single from Happenings, set to hit the shelves on July 5.

Kasabian released their last studio album just last year, and they’re getting ready to head back to the studio. The British indie rock band will drop their upcoming album Happenings next summer, and they’ll celebrate its release with a huge homecoming show in Leicester.

The band’s new album Happenings still doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s hitting the shelves next summer. The band is yet to share details about this record, but they told NME it was informed by their live shows and many of the songs are meant to be performed in front of a large audience.

Kasabian is planning to promote the album with a homecoming show “Summer Solstice II” in Leicester alongside Kaiser Chiefs. This concert will take place at Leicester’s Victoria Park on July 6, 2024, and frontman Serge Pizzorno is hoping it will introduce their music to a new generation of fans.

“It was about creating memories – that’s the thing you look back on. Those are the moments, those memories. This kind of thing ingrains forever. That’s why I think this one’s gonna be insane. Because of the energy of that new generation,” Pizzono told NME.

Kasabian’s last album The Alchemist’s Euphoria came out in August 2022 and became their sixth consecutive record to top the UK Albums chart.

Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno has shared why after 20 years of music, he is not ready to take a break.

Kasabian has been around since ’97 and they have released six studio albums in that time. At present, the band is taking a break and guitarist Serge Pizzorno is using the break as an opportunity to work on his first solo project.

The project is called “The S.L.P” and it sees psychedelic pop crossing over with rappers Little Simz and Slowthai. The record is bold, experimental, and it is coming out this Friday (August 30).

Speaking with NME, the guitarist explained why he feels compelled to keep making music and is unable to take a break to “you know, watch Coronation Street or something”.

“I just can’t… I feel like I’m being chased by time,” Pizzorno confessed. “I just wanna do stuff, I wanna put stuff out. I do like making things. I pin-point on the art and making it, and don’t really think about the consequences. I didn’t really think about this too much.

“It’s only now that I have to talk about it and it’s like, ‘Oh, you’ve made a record on your own’. I didn’t really think of it like that. Those moments in the studio where it comes together – that’s everything.”

Here’s Pizzorno’s trippy single “Favorites” from the upcoming album.

Kasabian’s Tom Meighan has revealed that he has been doing a bit of gardening and looking after his guinea pigs while Kasabian frontman Serge Pizzorno goes solo.

Pizzorno recently released his debut solo album, which has left fans wondering what the future holds for Kasabian.

At the premiere for Liam Gallagher’s new Oasis documentary As It Was, Meighan revealed that the band have no immediate plans to create new music.

“We’re taking a bit of a break,” Meighan told NME. “Serge is doing his thing, I’m doing my thing. I’ve actually been growing vegetables in the garden. We have guinea pigs and a sphynx called Vivian The Headless Cat. I’m going to be growing plants, planting seeds. I’m not David Bellamy – God rest his soul.”

In addition to getting up to some very rock ‘n’ roll gardening, Meighan is also working on some new solo music. When asked whether he plans to go solo, he said: “I’ve been doing it for years anyway. We’ll get together next year and write a record. I love Serge and I back him 100%.”

He added: “He’s my Paul [McCartney].”

Kasabian’s Serge Pizzorno has revealed his reasons for going solo and what to expect from his new project, The S.L.P.

Speaking with NME, Pizzorno explained how his decision to go solo was born out of finally getting some time off from Kasabian, who have pretty much been consistently releasing music since 1997.

“Kasabian organized some time off, and I’ve never afforded myself that luxury – well, none of us have really,” he revealed. “We’ve never stopped. I found a perfect little window to experiment and see where that took me.  I just enjoyed that freedom of being able to do whatever.

“I had been writing notes in my phone. I was interested in people having these online personas and this perfect projection of themselves; do you know what I mean? This is what we put out there, but in reality, none of us are really like that.”

He then went onto explain how technology has influenced his project and answered the question of whether a solo album is on its way.

He said: “It’s a question of identity in the digital age. We flick through all these photos to choose the favorite, go out on a date and move on before it’s even ended.”

Regarding the possibility of an album, he sounds optimistic: “There may be. We’re going to see how it goes. I’m never out of the studio. That’s my place. I’m always writing, always working. Luckily that’s my job.”

So watching this space.

Slaves are a punk duo from Tunbridge Wells, who are slowly gathering an impressive following. Kasabian recently gave the band the following high praise:

“They’re incredible, they’re really entertaining, and that’s what we’ve missed. Watching kids play guitars with their heads down is fine, but when someone comes on and just takes it by the throat and gives you a show – it’s f**king amazing. They have great tunes and aggressive punk songs too, but they’ve got this charm to them that’s really special.”

Their upcoming album Acts of Fear is due for release August 17.

Kasabian have said that newer bands simply “aren’t good enough” to headline festivals.

Speaking with Sky News about why the same bands tend to headline most festivals, frontman Tom Meighan said about newer and upcoming bands:

“They ain’t good enough, I don’t think they’ve got many big songs, you know what I mean? If you’re a big band you have big songs, it’s simple as that isn’t it, that’s how I look at rock and roll, it’s obvious isn’t it?”

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno then added: “It’s the follow-up record, it’s amazing debuts and amazing starts but the second and third it starts to… it’s hard for everyone though, anyone that’s a songwriter, anyone that’s in a band, to maintain at a level. It’s not easy, but it’s there, if anyone wants it it’s there, you’ve just got to come and get it.”

That being said, Pizzorno did take the time to credit rising band Slaves, who he described as a “phenomenal band.”

“If I was a betting man, they won’t be too far away [from headlining] in the next couple of years,” he said, “maybe this album, maybe album after, they’re an unbelievable, incredible band.”
