]]>It took 25 years for “All I Want For Christmas” to top the chart for the first time in 2019 and we’ve seen it return to No. 1 every holiday season since then. It logged its 11th week atop the Hot 100, setting a record for the longest span atop the Hot 100 with three years and one week.
This also marks Carey’s record-extending 90th week atop the Billboard Hot 100 and the singer said she was “jumping up and down in the snow” from excitement after receiving the news. She’s followed by Rihanna with 60 weeks and The Beatles with 59 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 since the chart’s inception in 1958.
As for the rest of Hot 100 for this week, it’s mostly filled with holiday classics, from Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” to Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock”. Wham!’s “Last Christmas” also reached a new high this holiday season and entered the top five for the first time since its release in 1984.

]]>Carey topped the chart on multiple occasions during the ‘90s and 2000s, but the tide has shifted in the following decade. None of her songs reached no. 1 in 2010s, until “All I Want for Christmas Is You” managed to do so, 25 years after its release.
People kept on listening to her signature tune throughout the holiday season, and this song was still on the top of the charts as the new decade approached.
Mariah Carey released “All I Want for Christmas Is You” early in her career, and never expected it to find such an enormous success.
“I didn’t feel, from a strategic point of view, that it was time to do something like that. As much as I love Christmas, I thought that the record company was off. Obviously, I couldn’t have been more wrong,” the singer told Entertainment Weekly while discussing the timeless legacy of this track.

]]>“All I Want for Christmas Is You” was first released on October 29th, 1994. It didn’t chart on Billboard Hot 100 at the time since it wasn’t released commercially as a single. The rules changed a couple of years down the road, and Carey saw this song re-entering the charts every time the holiday season rolled around.
It still took her by surprise to see it finally reach the top after all this time, but it was a pretty good feeling since she celebrated the 25th anniversary of its release this year.
“This just feels so great because it’s been such a long time coming, and I never really expected it. Even when it went to No. 9 two years ago, and then No. 3, I was like, ‘This is incredible!’ But I was always just so thankful with the holiday chart, so thankful. This is just, like, mind-boggling,” Carey told Billboard.
