]]>Radical Optimism was released on May 3, and Lipa described it as an album about “the idea of going through chaos gracefully and feeling like you can weather any storm.” She dropped three singles “Houdini”, “Training Season”, and “Illusion” ahead of its release, and she’s planning to promote it with The Radical Optimism Tour, set to kick off this summer.
Radical Optimism earned 46,300 chart units during its debut week on the Official Albums Chart in the UK, which marks the largest week by a British act this year. It also earned the most chart units for any album by a British female artist since Adele’s 30 in 2021.
Lipa failed to replicate this success in the US but did pretty great overall. Radical Optimism debuted at No. 2 behind Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, with 83,000 equivalent album units. This makes it Lipa’s highest-charting album in the US, and it scored the largest week of the singer’s career, surpassing its predecessor Future Nostalgia.

]]>“Espresso” previously became Carpenter’s first top ten hit in both the UK and the US, but it reached a new milestone during its latest week on the Official Singles Chart. It racked up 8.8 million streams to become the singer’s first chart-topping hit in this country.
“Espresso” had tough competition in “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, but eventually managed to beat it by fewer than 500 chart units to reach the top. Hozier’s “Too Sweet”, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”, and Artemas’ “I Like the Way You Kiss Me” rounded up the top five in the UK this week.
“Espresso” was released as a standalone single ahead of Carpenter’s performance at this year’s Coachella Music Festival back in early April. After the song hit No. 1 in the UK, she celebrated its success by tweeting, “I THOUGHT YALL DRANK TEA OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!” She’s expected to perform it live as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live on May 18.

]]>“Too Sweet” soared to the top with 61,000 chart units and 6.7 million streams during its latest week on the chart. This is his second song to make it to the top ten in the UK, following his breakout single “Take Me To Church”, which peaked at No. 2 in 2014.
Hozier was overwhelmed by the unexpected success of “Too Sweet” and thanked the fans who helped this song soar to new heights.
“Enormous thank you to everyone in the UK for all their support. I was taken aback by the response for Too Sweet and am thrilled people are enjoying it. Looking forward to being back in July for the upcoming shows!” said Hozier in a statement to Official Charts.
“Too Sweet” was released as one of the songs from the singer’s new EP Unheard, which serves as a companion piece to his latest studio album Unreal Earth. It also hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rock and Alternative Songs chart and reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Hozier’s second single in the top ten in the U.S.

Its chart-topping success comes on the heels of the release of deluxe edition Stick Season (Forever), which hit the shelves on February 9.
The new edition featured several collaborations that Kahan shared with his fans throughout 2023, including “Dial Drunk” ft. Post Malone, “Northern Attitude” ft. Hozier, and “She Calls Me Back” ft. Kacey Musgraves. It also featured three brand-new songs, including “Forever”, “You’re Gonna Go Far” ft. Brandi Carlile, and “Paul Revere” ft. Gregory Alan Isakov.

Prelude to Ecstasy did exceptionally well on vinyl, with 14,000 copies sold during its debut week. This makes it the fastest-selling debut album by a group on vinyl this century.
Prelude to Ecstasy was released on February 2, and it was preceded by several hit singles, including “Nothing Matters”, “Sinner”, “My Lady of Mercy”, “On Your Side”, and “Caesar on a TV Screen”.
The Last Dinner Party was formed by Abigail Morris, Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci in 2021. They’ve recently been announced as recipients of the Rising Star Award at this year’s Brit Awards, beating Caity Baser and Sekou.

]]>Saviors debuted at No. 1 with 31,361 album-equivalent units during its first week on the chart. It’s their fifth album to top the charts in the UK, following the success of American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), Revolution Radio (2016) and Father of All… (2020).
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong said they’re “really, truly grateful” to everyone who made this success possible in a statement to Official Charts.
“We’re so excited about our future, about our album Saviors, and just want to thank all the fans everywhere; the most important people to us! Fans, friends, family, whatever you want to call it. It’s been an amazing run for us so far, for decades, and we love you all,” said Armstrong.
Green Day dropped Saviors on January 19, and they’re planning to promote it with a tour across North America and Europe this spring and summer. In addition to Saviors, they’ll perform their classic albums Dookie and American Idiot in their entirety during this tour.

The song owes its resurgence to Emerald Fennell’s latest film Saltburn, which prominently featured this catchy disco hit in one of its most memorable scenes.
Ellis-Bextor discussed the song’s epic comeback with the Official Charts, and thanked all the fans, both new and old, for streaming the song and helping it reach new heights.
“One thing I’ve always loved about my work is its ability to surprise me. Murder on the Dancefloor is a song I’ve been singing for 20 years, and I’m on really good terms with it. I love singing it, I love performing it and what’s happening at the moment is kind of magical, actually,” said Ellis-Bextor.
In addition to re-peaking at No. 2 in the UK, “Murder on the Dancefloor” became her first song to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, after hitting No. 98 just last week.

]]>Christmas tunes finally left the UK Singles chart this week, leaving it up to “Stick Season” to become the first No. 1 hit of 2024 in the UK. Kahan’s viral hit climbed to the top spot with 6.5 million streams, after previously spending two non-consecutive weeks at No. 2.
Kahan recently told NME that stick season signifies the time of the year “between fall and the snow”, adding it marks a time of transition in a lot of people’s lives.
“I thought I was gonna go to college but, instead, I got a record deal. I was just at home in Vermont making music and my friends would come home for Thanksgiving, when stick season was in full swing. They would leave, and that loneliness would come back,” he told NME.
“Stick Season” was released as the lead single from Kahan’s third studio album of the same name, and it helped the Vermont-based indie singer score a Grammy nod for best new artist.

Bublé discussed the album’s enduring popularity on Billboard’s Pop Shop Podcast in 2022. He admitted he would sometimes complain about its success because people couldn’t stop talking about it, but eventually realized how wonderful it is to have it as a part of his legacy.
“It’s become less about what religion you are and it’s become about just a time when us human beings might need a bit of a break. And there’s a little more empathy and kindness. And I thought, man, to be connected to something so beautiful, there are much worse things in life,” said Bublé.
