Trent Reznor might be considered a genius by certain music critics, but that doesn’t mean it’s gotten to his head. The Nine Inch Nails star was recently nominated for two Oscars—an experience that he said was “surreal and humbling and incredibly flattering.”

Alongside bandmate Atticus Ross, Reznor received a nomination for creating the score of Mank, a David Fincher-directed Netflix film. He was also nominated for making the jazzy score of Soul, the Pixar animated smash hit.

“(It’s) another thing that kind of doesn’t seem real in a year when everything starts to blur together. But we’re very grateful,” Reznor said about his nomination.

Regarding his collaboration with Pixar, Reznor claimed that the company had been his “list of dream collaborators” before he got the job. When he was asked why, he said: “Because we just love Pixar.”

But Reznor had a lot more to say about his love for Pixar: “There’s a humanity and a greatness to them that’s several notches above… I won’t even limit it to animation, there’s just a quality that always appealed to us.”

The musician went on to say that he and Ross were more than willing to work with Pixar if the opportunity ever came up. Now that they have, they were able to snag an Oscar nomination.

On April 25th, we’ll see whether or not the Nine Inch Nails frontman will receive any hardware for his efforts.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are no strangers to creating groundbreaking soundtracks, but they’re taking things to a whole new level with Watchmen by releasing three volumes of music featured in HBO’s new show.

The Nine Inch Nails members teased the news on social media, by sharing the release date for all three albums – November 4th, November 25th, and December 16th. They will come out as the series progresses and the final one will hit the shelves only a day after the Watchmen season finale.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have a long list of movie scores under their belt, and one Oscar win for their work on The Social Network. Watchmen is one of their rare joint TV credits, but they’ve always been on the top of Damon Lindelof’s wish list for his new show.

“They signed up on faith and faith alone. They get the scripts at the same time the actors do. They started writing the music even before we shot the pilot so we can get a sense in our heads of what it would sound like. It’s been incredible,” Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly.

The Country Music Association Awards is not the first institution that jumps to mind when you talk about Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor but we’d better try to bend our mind around it because Reznor is now a nominee.

This strange fact is made possible due to the industrial rocker contribution to Lil Nas X’s song, “Old Town Road.” The hit recently became the longest-running US Number One of all time and it used Nine Inch Nails’ “34 Ghosts IV” for its base. Now the song is nominated for the Musical Event of the Year Award in this year’s CMA. This is also the first time Treznot’s works get to be a number one single.

Reznor responded to this nomination on his Instagram account, acknowledging his contribution to the song for the first time. He shared a photo of himself and Atticus Ross, who is also nominated, posing via photoshop as another nominees in the category – Brooks and Dunn. Reznor has captioned the photo: “New world, new times…”

Not much is known about Pixar’s next film, Soul, which will go on screens next year but we can already assume it will have a killer score. Variety revealed that the people behind the film’s music are no other than Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

It is not the first movie to get the duo’s treatment. They have won the Oscar for Best Original Score for their work on The Social Network and have also scored movies like David Fincher’s Gone Girl and Jonah Hill’s Mid 90s.

The movie will be directed by the director of 2015’s Inside Out and 2009’s Up, Pixar’s chief creative officer, Pete Docter. From what we know about the movie, it will follow a music teacher who is trying to achieve his goal – playing in The Blue Note, a New York jazz club. The cast of the movie includes voice actors as Questlove, Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, and Daveed Diggs.

Soul is due to be released to theaters on June 19, 2020.

It’s been a little bit more than a week since Netflix dropped three brand-new episodes of Black Mirror, and one of them just happened to feature a reworked version of Nine Inch Nails classic “Head Like a Hole”. Fans of the show immediately fell in love with it, and couldn’t wait to hear it again.

Loudwire reports that the track from NIN’s debut studio album Pretty Hate Machine experienced a 300% surge in views after the new season of Black Mirror hit Netflix. It was featured in the third episode Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, starring Miley Cyrus.

The former Disney star played the role of pop superstar Ashley O, whose biggest hit titled “On a Roll” happened to be based on Nine Inch Nails classic. Creator of the show, Charlie Brooker, felt this song would be a perfect fit, and asked Trent Reznor permission to turn it into an addictive pop tune.

“He got it straight away. It was via email and he was really happy. He wanted to see the script and I got to rewrite his lyrics in a chirpy way. I’m not the best lyricist in the world, and there’s one point where she’s singing ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve,’” explained Brooker during press screening in London.

Earlier this week, The Cure was finally inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Trent Reznor introduced the goth band and gave an emotional speech about how the huge impact The Cure had on him growing up.

It is clear that Nine Inch Nails were influenced by The Cure but it was not clear just how much of a personal impact the band had on frontman Reznor. At the ceremony, he praised the band’s uniqueness, darkness and describes the experience of listening to their music and no longer feeling alone.

Reznor said: “Immediately this band struck a chord. The first album I heard was ‘The Head on the Door.’ I hadn’t heard anything like it before. I felt a lot of the darkness that I felt in my head coming back at me through the speakers, and it blew my mind. It was like this music was written just for me. I struggled my whole life feeling that I don’t fit in or belong anywhere — kind of like right now. Hearing this, suddenly I felt connected, no longer quite so alone.”

He continued: “It wasn’t just the sound, the words, the presentation, all of it was anchored by the most exquisite of instruments, Robert Smith’s voice. That voice had such range of emotion — from rage, and sorrow and despair to beauty, frailty, and joy. It might sound naïve, but until I heard The Head on the Door, I didn’t realize that it’s possible to have such difficult and profound ideas in the context of accessible songs that might even get played on the radio, challenging norms on the inside.”

He concluded: “Their dedication to pushing sonic and artistic boundaries while making music for the ages wasn’t always rewarded with glowing reviews in the press. But they never failed to attract a passionate, intelligent and loyal fanbase who always knew the truth: The Cure are one of the most unique, most brilliant, most heartbreakingly excellent rock bands the world has ever known.”
