]]>Alongside bandmate Atticus Ross, Reznor received a nomination for creating the score of Mank, a David Fincher-directed Netflix film. He was also nominated for making the jazzy score of Soul, the Pixar animated smash hit.
“(It’s) another thing that kind of doesn’t seem real in a year when everything starts to blur together. But we’re very grateful,” Reznor said about his nomination.
Regarding his collaboration with Pixar, Reznor claimed that the company had been his “list of dream collaborators” before he got the job. When he was asked why, he said: “Because we just love Pixar.”
But Reznor had a lot more to say about his love for Pixar: “There’s a humanity and a greatness to them that’s several notches above… I won’t even limit it to animation, there’s just a quality that always appealed to us.”
The musician went on to say that he and Ross were more than willing to work with Pixar if the opportunity ever came up. Now that they have, they were able to snag an Oscar nomination.
On April 25th, we’ll see whether or not the Nine Inch Nails frontman will receive any hardware for his efforts.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have a long list of movie scores under their belt, and one Oscar win for their work on The Social Network. Watchmen is one of their rare joint TV credits, but they’ve always been on the top of Damon Lindelof’s wish list for his new show.
“They signed up on faith and faith alone. They get the scripts at the same time the actors do. They started writing the music even before we shot the pilot so we can get a sense in our heads of what it would sound like. It’s been incredible,” Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly.

Now the song is nominated for the Musical Event of the Year Award in this year’s CMA. This is also the first time Treznot’s works get to be a number one single.
Reznor responded to this nomination on his Instagram account, acknowledging his contribution to the song for the first time. He shared a photo of himself and Atticus Ross, who is also nominated, posing via photoshop as another nominees in the category – Brooks and Dunn. Reznor has captioned the photo: “New world, new times…”

]]>Loudwire reports that the track from NIN’s debut studio album Pretty Hate Machine experienced a 300% surge in views after the new season of Black Mirror hit Netflix. It was featured in the third episode Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, starring Miley Cyrus.
The former Disney star played the role of pop superstar Ashley O, whose biggest hit titled “On a Roll” happened to be based on Nine Inch Nails classic. Creator of the show, Charlie Brooker, felt this song would be a perfect fit, and asked Trent Reznor permission to turn it into an addictive pop tune.
“He got it straight away. It was via email and he was really happy. He wanted to see the script and I got to rewrite his lyrics in a chirpy way. I’m not the best lyricist in the world, and there’s one point where she’s singing ‘I’m stoked on ambition and verve’ instead of ‘You’re gonna get what you deserve,’” explained Brooker during press screening in London.

Reznor said: “Immediately this band struck a chord. The first album I heard was ‘The Head on the Door.’ I hadn’t heard anything like it before. I felt a lot of the darkness that I felt in my head coming back at me through the speakers, and it blew my mind. It was like this music was written just for me. I struggled my whole life feeling that I don’t fit in or belong anywhere — kind of like right now. Hearing this, suddenly I felt connected, no longer quite so alone.”

He concluded: “Their dedication to pushing sonic and artistic boundaries while making music for the ages wasn’t always rewarded with glowing reviews in the press.
