Tool took a long studio break between their 2006 album 10,000 Days and its follow-up, Fear Inoculum in 2019. Luckily, it appears that the Los Angeles rockers don’t want to do that with their new release.

In a recent chat with Revolver Magazine, bassist Justin Chancellor and drummer Danny Carey discussed Tool’s plans for the future and the possibility of recording new music. According to the duo, the group wants to speed up the process this time.

“Time is precious now, so you try and look for ways to be more efficient with the process,” Chancellor said. “We’ve had a lot of discussion about that and how we can bring a new record to fruition in a slightly different way.”

Carey added that recording new music is a “painstaking process” for Tool as the whole band, which also consists of vocalist Maynard James Keenan and guitarist Adam Jones, needs to like a particular song to move forward with it. This “pays off in the long run” because that way, the band doesn’t get tired of playing their songs during live shows.

One way Tool will try to get their music faster to fans without compromising their creative process is by releasing an extended play (EP) rather than an entire album. This is something that the band is strongly considering, according to Carey.

“We’re free agents now,” he explained. “We aren’t signed to a label anymore. We are free to do whatever we want.”

Tool topped the US Billboard 200 charts with Fear Inoculum, while the release received critical acclaim. The 15-minute long track “7empest” was recognized with a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.

Although it took Tool 13 years to release their fifth studio album Fear Inoculum, we shouldn’t wait that long for its follow-up. According to drummer Danny Carey, the band already has “tons of material” for another album.

Carey recently spoke about the band’s future plans with Metal Hammer magazine, revealing that Tool plans to spend the next couple of years on the road.

“It’s hard to say,” said Carey. “We’re going to tour on this probably for two or three years at least, I imagine. It feels like what we’ve done on every album, and then I guess we’ll see where we’re sitting after that.”

Following the tour, Carey expects them to return to the studio and get another record out.

“My hope is we get in and knock out another record.” – he added. “We have tons of material. It’s not going to take 12 years, or if it does, I’ll probably be so old I probably can’t pick up my sticks anymore! But my hope is we’ll do another record and just keep moving forward.”

Carey explained, however, that the material doesn’t include finished tracks, but riffs, jams, and parts of songs.

Tool released Fear Inoculum on August 30th, with the record becoming both critical and commercial success. The album topped the US Billboard 200 charts while also reaching No.1 in Australia, Belgium, Canada, New Zealand, and Norway.

The Los Angeles rock band has finally announced the date of their new album – it will be on the 30th of August this year. They flashed the date 30th of August on the big screen at their show in Birmingham, Alabama on Tuesday night.

Not long after that, they released a video on their official Twitter account with the exact date and a sound teaser for the album. Maynard James Keenan asked their fans to share the information about the album and the video on other social media.

Two of the songs that will be on the album, “Descending” and “Invincible” are already well-known to the fans as they have played them on their live shows. The band has played “Descending” and an instrumental version of the same since 2014.

At the moment, Tool is performing their North America tour, which will wrap up on May 19th in Bridgeview, Illinois. It was in this tour that they introduced “Invincible” to the crowd and they received very positive feedback for it.

The fans are more than excited that Tool will finally release a new album after having to enjoy their last album “10,000 Days” which was released in 2006. The expectations are high, as they have been working on this album for a long 13 years, and we can’t wait to see with what they’ll treat us next!

It’s been so long since Tool released new music that some fans have given up hope that their favorite band will get back into the studio in their lifetime.

But after more than a decade of holding out, the American rockers finally debuted some new songs during their set at Jacksonville’s Welcome to Rockville festival.

During the show, Tool performed two of their new tracks, “Descending” and “Invincible.” These two songs are expected to be a part of the band’s new studio album, which will be their first since 2006’s 10,000 Days.

You can watch Tool performing the new songs in the videos below.

There have been rumors about Tool’s new album for the past several years, but the band only confirmed it in late 2017. Since then, there have been several contradictory reports about its progress and release date before frontman Maynard James Keenan went on Twitter in September 2018 and said the album is expected to come out between May and July.

“Midway through mixing,” Keenan wrote on Twitter. “Most likely be a few recalls. Then some arguing. Then Mastering, Artwork, Video, Special Packaging, etc. Best Ballpark Guess- Release date somewhere between Mid May and Mid July. More focused updates to follow as we progress.”
