]]>Bennett died at his home in New York City on July 21, after a seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease, and his family confirmed his passing in an official statement: “Tony left us today but he was still singing the other day at his piano and his last song was, ‘Because of You,’ his first #1 hit. Tony, because of you we have your songs in our heart forever.”
Bennett’s rise to prominence started when he dropped “Because of You” in 1951, and he went on to release 70 albums in the years to come. He endured many shifts in the music industry over the decades, staying loyal to his signature style, and gave us such hits as “Rags to Riches” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco”.
Bennett retired from performing in 2021, with a final concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. His retirement came shortly after he revealed he’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, but he kept making music after his diagnosis and found success with the collaborative album Love for Sale alongside Lady Gaga.

]]>According to the press release, the new album will be exclusively comprised of songs written by legendary composer and songwriter Cole Porter. It will see Bennett and Gaga share the spotlight with a handful of solo performances alongside their duets.
The news was also confirmed on Bennett’s social media.
Gaga also went on social media to announce the project while revealing that Bennett approached her with the idea of making a collaborative album to celebrate Porter on the day they released Cheek to Cheek.
The first single from Love for Sale is 1934’s track “I Get a Kick Out of You”, which first appeared in the Broadway musical Anything Goes. The song was later recorded by several notable music artists, including Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.

Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga will perform this and a handful of other new songs when they reunite on stage for two shows at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. These performances are billed as the duo’s final shows together as Bennett is retiring from recording and performing due to Alzheimer’s Disease.

]]>The news of the pair’s upcoming album was announced in the new AARP magazine article detailing Bennett’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease. They started working on this album in 2018 at New York’s Electric Lady Studios and continued recording through early last year.
Lady Gaga calls Bennett “an incredible mentor, and friend, and father figure” in an article passage that describes their creative process at the studio. Danny Bennett, the singer’s son and manager, announced the album in the article. “I wanted to check with her to make sure she was cool because she watches his back all the time. She was like, ‘Absolutely, it’s just another gift that he can give to the world,’” he explained.
The second collaborative album recorded by Gaga and Bennett still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s expected to drop in the second quarter of 2021.
