]]>No album this week created more buzz than Beyoncé’s brilliant new record Cowboy Carter, which will change the way you look at country. Each of the 27 songs on Queen B’s barrier-breaking new album deserves a spot on our list, and we decided to go with “II Most Wanted” ft. Miley Cyrus.
Most mainstream artists made a smart decision and avoided releasing new singles to avoid competing with Beyoncé, but that didn’t stop indie acts from sharing new music with the world.
Some of our favorite alternative rock bands dropped new music this past week, starting with Vampire Weekend’s “Mary Boone”, Twenty One Pilots’ “Next Semester”, and Kings Of Leon’s “Split Screen”. Sum 41 bid farewell with their final album Heaven :x: Hell, which produced their latest single “Dopamine”.
As for the rest of our list for this week, you’ll find everything from Latin collaborations, including “It Was Always You” by Carin León and Leon Bridges and “BYAK” by Alvaro Diaz and Rauw Alejandro, St. Vincent’s “Flea” featuring Dave Grohl on the drums, and several girl power bops, such as Isabel LaRosa’s “Favorite” and Becky Hill’s “Outside of Love”.

]]>Back in May, Sum 41 announced they intended to release one final album before ceasing to exist. The record, titled Heaven :x: Hell, is coming on March 29 and will be accompanied by the Tour of the Setting Sum, which will see the band performing a series of shows in Asia, North America, and Europe.
The tour kicks off in early March with shows in Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. The band will then head to Japan for a six-date trip.
After the Asian leg of the tour, Sum 41 plans a series of concerts in April and May in North America before spending the majority of the summer playing in Europe. The second half of 2024 is reserved for another batch of dates in the United States and Canada.
Sum 41 will play their final show ever in Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena on January 30, 2025.
Speaking about the band’s decision to split, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley said that they want to focus on other projects and believe they will be leaving the stage while at their best.
“I felt this is probably the best record we’ve ever made,” Whibley shared in an interview with Metal Injection. “And I think this version of the band is the best we’ve ever been live. And I thought, what a way to just go out on this one.”

]]>Sum 41 announced the release of their final studio album together back in March, and said they’re planning to disband following the worldwide tour in support of this record. Heaven and Hell will be a double album, and its Heaven side will see Sum 41 going back to their pop-punk roots while staying true to their heavier new sound on the Hell side of the album.
While discussing their upcoming album with The Rolling Stone, frontman Deryck Whibley explained that they started experimenting with genres because they wanted to retreat to things that made them feel good in the past.
“There’s some weird nostalgia that kicked in because of the pandemic. It all made sense to me why pop-punk is coming back: it’s feel-good music. There’s something that’s happy about it. Something young and innocent and free,” he explained.
“Landmines” will most likely be featured on the album’s Heaven side, and Whibley said that this song felt special right away, even though he wasn’t initially planning to write an old-school pop-punk song.

]]>Deryck Whibley, Dave Baksh, Jason “Cone” McCaslin, Tom Thacker, and Frank Zummo released a joint statement on social media to announce they’ll be going their separate ways.
“Being in Sum 41 since 1996 brought us some of the best moments of our lives. We are forever grateful to our fans both old and new, who have supported us in every way. It is hard to articulate the love and respect we have for all of you and we wanted you to hear it from us first,” the band said in a statement.
Despite disbanding, Sum 41 will have enough time to say a proper goodbye to their fans because they have several projects on the way. Their final album Heaven and Hell is soon to be released, and it will be a double record, which will explore both their pop-punk roots and their recent metal sound.
Sum 41 will also soon embark on a tour alongside Simple Plan and The Offspring, but they’re also plotting a headlining farewell tour after releasing their final album.
