]]>Lostboy recalled co-writing “Padam Padam” with Ina Wroldsen in early 2022 in a recent interview with The Sun and revealed that the label wasn’t sure if Minogue was the right fit for this song.
“There were maybe four or five months of us sitting on it, then I sent it to their label, and someone suggested to me, ‘Kylie would kill this.’ They were unsure and there was a moment when Rita was going to cut it and it was worming around a few artists on that label,” said Lostboy.
He praised Minogue’s take, saying he was surprised by how confident she was that she could make the song her own, while also putting a modern twist on it.
“Padam Padam” was released in May last year as a lead single from Minogue’s last studio album Tension. It became a true viral phenomenon on social media, hit the top ten in several countries around the world, and scored a Grammy nod for the best pop dance recording.

]]>Ora’s career kicked off with a bang when she signed with Roc Nation during the early 2010s, but she struggled to keep the hype alive in later years. She shifted labels twice and released You & I under BMG, promising her most personal record to date, but did she manage to deliver on that promise?
Ora started teasing You & I earlier this year, with the lead single “You Only Love Me”, inspired by her marriage to Taika Waititi, like the majority of her third LP. She went on to join forces with Fatboy Slim for “Praising You”, which samples one of his biggest hits, giving us one of the album’s catchiest and most delightful tracks.
You & I features several power ballads, such as “Shape of Me”, “Notting Hill”, and the titular
“You & I”. Even though they’re the core of this album, she never fully commits to them, mixing them up with dancefloor bangers such as “Don’t Think Twice”.
Ora always relied on an army of writers to tell her stories, and her attempt to get “more real” on You & I is admirable but pretty uneven. She made her best attempt to bare her soul, but most of her new songs fit into generic mid-tempo pop and are ultimately too forgettable for this album to make any real impact.

]]>You & I is Ora’s love letter to her husband Taika Waititi, and she described it as the diary of her last few years. She also revealed that we can expect a high-spirited record about what it feels like to fall beautifully, instinctually in love with someone.
Ora also gave us a taste of things to come with a new single “Praising You”, a collaboration with the iconic British DJ Fatboy Slim. This song is a reworked version of his iconic big beat hit “Praise You” from 1999, and Ora said it was surreal to collaborate with him and pay homage to the original track.
“I think this record means something different for everyone, but from my perspective, it’s about praising your loved ones and really celebrating those relationships. I’m incredibly honored that we get to breathe new life into the song and re-introduce it to a whole new generation,” Ora told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1.

]]>Ora instantly wanted to be a part of this project because she was moved by Warren’s lyrics and the passion they evoked because they’re all about encouraging women to stay strong and stick together.
“The fight for women’s equality is a global issue. Every day, women around the world are fighting to be seen, heard, and respected. We must continue to work to empower one another as we strive to make equality a reality for women in every part of the world,” said Ora in a statement.
Warren described “Finish Line” as an “uplifting anthem that reminds us to never give up the fight”. She previously worked with Ora on the song “Seaside” from her album Diane Warren: The Cave Sessions Vol. 1, and felt she was a perfect fit for this track because she’s a global artist who “can get this message outwards”.
