Queen’s album The Miracle gave us hit singles “I Want It All” and “The Invisible Man”, but we’ve never got to hear some of the songs they worked on while recording it. The band recently discovered an unreleased song featuring Freddie Mercury, called “Face It Alone”.

Brian May described the song as beautiful and touching while chatting with BBC, adding it was hiding in plain sight before they decided to take a close look at it and put it back together.

“We looked at it many times and thought, ‘Oh no, we can’t really rescue that.’ But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘Okay, we can do this and this.’ It’s like kind of stitching bits together,” explained May.

Roger Taylor joined May for the interview with BBC, and described the song as “a little gem from Freddie.” He also called it “a real discovery” and “a very passionate piece” and revealed they’ll most likely release it in September.

The Miracle was released in 1989, as the band’s penultimate album to be recorded with the legendary frontman Freddie Mercury before he passed away in 1991. Queen is currently touring alongside Alan Lambert and they most recently opened the Platinum Party at the Palace outside Buckingham Palace to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Following Freddie Mercury’s death in early 1991, there was a lot of chatter about who could take his place as Queen’s vocalist. Pop star George Michael, who performed with the band at 1992’s Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium, was rumored to be the favorite for the gig and reportedly even got an offer before deciding to take a pass.

Decades later, Queen’s drummer Roger Taylor decided to set the record straight on this rumor in a recent interview with Classic Rock. According to Taylor, Michael was never offered the spot as he wasn’t the right fit.

“I remember hearing the rumors but it wouldn’t have suited us,” said Taylor. “George wasn’t really used to working with a live band. When he heard the power he had behind him in rehearsal, he couldn’t believe it.”

Michael performed three songs at the Wembley Stadium concert with Queen including “39,” “These Are the Days of Our Lives,” and “Somebody to Love.” The performance was later released as Five Live EP and made to No.1 on UK Singles charts.

Queen’s guitarist Brian May and Taylor later teamed up with Bad Company’s lead singer Paul Rodgers in 2004 for a new iteration of the band. After splitting with Rodgers five years later, the duo recruited American Idol finalist Adam Lambert as their new singer.

Neil Gaiman’s highly-anticipated adaptation of cult novel Good Omens is finally here, and the epic battle between good and evil isn’t the only thing that will capture your attention. The soundtrack of the show is equally captivating since it features some of Queen’s greatest hits.

Those familiar with the book the mini-series was based on were not surprised by the countless Queen references. One of Agnes Nutter’s prophecies mentioned in the novel clearly states that “all tapes left in a car for more than about a fortnight metamorphose into Best of Queen albums” and that’s exactly what happens in Good Omens.

Every time we see Crowley driving his old Bentley, we can hear one of Queen’s songs blasting in the background. Even the songs that weren’t originally recorded by this legendary band are reminiscent of their signature sound.

Queen references were one of the most notable running jokes in the original novel, and director Douglas Mackinnon really went an extra mile to get the rights for band’s greatest hits – especially “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

“I think Queen was going, ‘Well, maybe the film is not going to be so good, so you can have the rights.’ Happily for everyone, the film turns out to be a great film and one of the biggest splashes of the year. But we still had the rights,” explained Mackinnon while chatting with The Wrap.

Queen legend Brian May says that the band hasn’t “earned a penny” from the recent Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The feature starred Rami Malek as the late Freddie Mercury. Malek received an Academy Award for his stellar performance along with a Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA. His epic performance along with the popularity of Queen resulted in $900 million of earnings at the box office.

Although Queen’s original music was used in the feature, however, it seems that they are yet to benefit from the sales of the movie.

May told BBC Radio 2 on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show: “We thought it would do well in the end and we felt good about it, but we didn’t realize it would do that well. It’s incredible around the world – it’s like a billion-dollar movie.”

In spite of the movie’s global success, May has admitted that they are yet to earn any profits from sales.

“I had to laugh the other day because there’s a thing in the paper saying that we were getting rich off this movie,” he said. “If they only knew. We had an accountant in the other day and we still haven’t earned a penny from it.

“Isn’t that funny? How successful does a movie have to be before you make money? There’s so many people that people don’t realize will take pieces off the top.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is available for purchase on DVD via Amazon now.

Queen guitarist Brian May combined two of his biggest passions – music and astronomy – in his first solo single in 20 years called New Horizons. This song is his personal tribute to NASA’s historic flypast of Ultima Thule and he described it as an “anthem to the human endeavor.”

His video provides a great summary of a flight path of the ongoing NASA New Horizons mission, and May’s involvement is no coincidence. Queen guitarist just happens to have a doctorate in astrophysics and he served as science team collaborator during this historic mission.

May said this project energized him in a new way and he just couldn’t pass on the opportunity to write a theme for Ultima Thule, which could be played when New Horizons probe reaches its destination.

“It will be by far the most distant object we have ever seen at close quarters, through the images which the space craft will beam back to earth. To me, it epitomizes the human spirit’s unceasing desire to understand the universe we inhabit,” explained May.

Queen guitarist Brian May is dropping a new single from none other than NASA’s Control Centre.

It’s been 20 years since we last received new solo music from the legendary Brian May, but it looks like we won’t have to wait much longer. On New Year’s Day, the Queen guitarist will release brand new single ‘New Horizons’ and he will drop it from NASA’s Control Centre. The track will be a tribute to the NASA New Horizons mission which will break a record for the most distance spacecraft flyby in the history of man on January 1st. To make the track even more special, it will feature words spoken by the late genius, Stephen Hawking.

“This project has energized me in a new way,” said May. ” For me, it’s been an exciting challenge to bring two sides of my life together – Astronomy and Music.  It was Alan Stern, the Project Instigator of this amazing NASA Mission, who threw down the glove last May. He asked if I could come up with a theme for Ultima Thule which could be played as the NH probe reached this new destination.”

You can start your year off right and listen to ‘New Horizons’ from 12.02am EST on the first day of 2019.

Queen is undoubtedly one of the greatest rock bands in the history of music. Thanks to their stadium anthems and the incredible talent of frontman Freddie Mercury, the group is now loved by all generations.

Recently the band’s music gained even more exposure thanks to biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which was released in October. While this was a great movie, many interesting facts about these legendary British rockers were skipped in it, so we decided to do you a solid and bring you 8 things you probably didn’t know about Queen.

1. Before joining forces with Freddie Mercury and forming Queen, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor played together in a band named Smile.

2. The Queen’s crest was designed by Mercury, who used the astrological signs of the band’s members as inspiration.

3. If you are not a diehard Queen fan, you probably didn’t know that they have a Christmas track. Titled “Thank God It’s Christmas,” the song was released in 1984 and achieved moderate success. It was never released on any of the band’s studio albums.

4. The band holds several Guinness World Records including the one for UK’s best single of the past 50 years for “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

5. Speaking of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Queen recorded the music video for the song in just four hours. Another interesting thing about the song is that Freddie Mercury didn’t like to play it live since he was unsure about his abilities to play the piano.

6. Queen didn’t think that “Another One Bites The Dust” has a potential to become a hit. They decided to release it as a single only after Michael Jackson recommended that.

7. Their collaboration with David Bowie, song “Under Pressure,” was born accidentally. Bowie happened to be in the same studio were Queen recorded, and they decided to do a song together.

8. Freddie Mercury was a big cat lover and had up to ten of them at various points in his life. He was so attached to his pets that he called home to talk to them while he was on tour.
