It featured a mix of artists representing California, including Billie Eilish from Highland Park, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre as representatives of West the Coast rap, and the Los Angeles natives the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Eilish was accompanied by Finneas while singing a breezy cover of her sleeper hit “Birds of a Feather”, as a part of the LA28 Handover Celebration. Snoop Dogg was joined by Dr. Dre while performing a medley of 2000s hits “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “The Next Episode”, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers gave us an epic rendition of “Can’t Stop”.
The list of performers also included H.E.R., who performed the United States national anthem as part of the handover, plus French singers Phoenix and Angèle, tuning in with live sets from Paris. In addition to several music performances, Tom Cruise made a special appearance and performed a stunt descending from the top of the Stade de France, as a nod to Los Angeles’ Hollywood connection.

]]>After weeks of speculations that she’d hit the stage at the Olympics, Lady Gaga opened the ceremony with a rendition of the song “Mon truc en plumes”. The ceremony also featured several French artists, including opera singer Marina Viotti, Juliette Armanet performing the cover of John Lennon’s “Imagine”, and Gojira making history as the first metal band to perform at an Olympic opening ceremony.
Celine Dion’s performance was definitely the most anticipated moment of the night because it marked her first live show since she was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022. She covered Édith Piaf’s song “Hymne à l’amour” from the first level of the Eiffel Tower, right after the Olympic flame was lit.
Dion said she was full of joy to return to one of her favorite cities and take part in the opening ceremony, and wished all the luck to the athletes taking part in the Olympics.
“I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance. All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you!” wrote Dion on social media.
