]]>Bellamy has described Morello as a “huge inspiration” and invited him to join Muse on their Simulation Theory world tour. As a way of saying thanks, the Muse frontman had a custom ax built for the guitar icon. The guitar is dark blue and has “Power To The People” engraved on the front.
Bellamy shared a photo of Morello with his new guitar on Instagram and wrote: “[Tom Morello] has been a huge inspiration to me growing up, a guitar legend. Proud to be able to give him a guitar I had made inspired by his playing and his message. Thanks for joining us on this UK tour, it’s been a blast! #powertothepeople.”
And while you are here, here’s a clip from Muse’s show at the London Olympic Stadium from June 1st.

]]>The actor told USA Today: “It genuinely does have an incredibly good soundtrack. I completely forgot, but the soundtracks were quite ahead of their time.”
He also shared his thoughts on the movie receiving a second wave of fans over ten years after the first feature of the franchise was released.
“It seems like with younger people in their late teens, early 20s, it’s sort of become quite a hip thing to like,” he said. “It’s a fascinating second wave of people appreciating it, which is kind of cool. I think when anything becomes a massive phenomenon, there’s always people who get annoyed because it’s just everywhere. But now it seems like a retro thing: the soundtrack, the fashion. It’s like, ‘Oh, that’s so late 2000s.’”
So if you’re wondering what to listen to this afternoon, why not revisit the Twilight soundtrack? You’ll find Muse, Radiohead and Karen O among many other great artists of the 2000s.

]]>Muse are renowned for pushing the limits when it comes to their live shows. You can always count on them to have an extravagant light show, smoke machines and a surprise or two. When it comes to their current Simulation Theory world tour, however, guitarist Matt Bellamy reckons that they might have pushed things a little too far.
“Robots do appear at some point in the show, and, you know, they’re pretty threatening,” he told the Miami New Times. “I didn’t think we could go this far, but we’ve finally gone too far.
He continued: “At some point, you’ve got to find the limits of what you can do in a rock show. It feels like no one else is doing that in the world of guitar music. It feels pretty unique at the moment.”
Drummer Don Howard also considered the question of whether they have gone too far and said: “That’s the thing — it’s becoming unsustainable. This is very much about the spectacle, this tour, but the antithesis would be to do something that’s purely about the music and nothing else, which is most likely what we’ll do in the future. At this stage, I don’t know.
Muse will next perform at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on March 23.

]]>If you had to take a guess at who Muse’s key influencers are, you’d probably lean more towards other great rock bands like Radiohead. Surprisingly, it is actually pop sensation Ed Sheeran who has been giving Bellamy ideas for new material. When asked in an interview what kind of things he would still like to explore when it comes to guitar playing, Bellamy’s answer revolved around the “Shape Of You” star’s looping work.
“I’ve been quite interested in what Ed Sheeran does with the looping systems. That’s something I’ve never really dabbled in, but I’d like to,” Bellamy told GuitarWorld.
“Especially now, with the access I have to synth sounds coming from the guitar. So I haven’t really begun yet, but at some point I like the idea of experimenting more with getting some looping sounds going and exploring that side of it.”

]]>Their set looked fit for a dystopian space apocalypse and fans went wild for the band who played songs off their most recent album along with old classics like “Plug In Baby” and “Knights of Cydonia.”
You can watch a sneak peak of their crazy live show here:
Anyone who has been to a Muse gig will know that the band are notorious for putting on a big show. They never skip out on electric gadgets and gimicks but this show plans to take things to the next level.
Last year, Matt Bellamy told NME: “We’re going to do the biggest tour and just blow people’s minds with stuff they’ve never seen before. We’re going to come up with something that no one’s ever seen before.
“We’re always interested in the latest technology and what’s cutting edge, so we’re always thinking of the new thing that nobody’s ever used before in a concert. And we found something and we’re going to use that.”
Muse will play their next show on Sunday (February 24) in Dallas, Texas.

]]>Citi Sound Vault is a series of concerts taking place at the Hollywood Palladium during Grammy week, between February 7 and 10. This even is powered by Live Nation and the number of tickets is limited and only available to holders of Citi Card.
Executive vice president of Live Nation, Darin Wolf, said their partnership with Citi led to creation of a unique personalized experience, which allowed card holders to get access to amazing power of live music.
“Citi Sound Vault has set the bar on how to cultivate a once-in-a-lifetime experience for fans by combining access and exclusivity to incredible artists across the board,” explained Wolf.
Pink, Muse and Chris Stapleton are joining the ranks of many A-list stars who made a surprise appearance at this event, including Miley Cyrus, John Legend, Lenny Kravitz and Ed Sheeran.

]]>The post MUSE “Simulation Theory”: a Technophobic, Uninspired Shot in the Dark appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>If you know nothing about Muse or their new album and enter into the first track ‘Algorithm’ blind, you’ll likely think you have stumbled onto a budget sci-fi film score. The weird 80’s synthy sounds are reminiscent of Scott Ridley’s Blade Runner and the album cover looks similar to the 2017 reboot. Around halfway through the song, Matt Bellamy’s bold, instantly identifiable vocals come in and the Muse ammeter might be thinking something along the lines of: “Oh, these are the guys that did Super Massive Blackhole. But what the hell is this?”
As the album progresses, it would be lazy to class Simulation Theory as a synth-pop album. It’s experimental and yes, there definitely seems to be a Prince vibe in one or two tracks (‘Propaganda’ we are referring to you), but their use of synth is far more creative than generic ’80s pop. “Pressure” is fun with a catchy Jack White-esque riff. The vocals get a little too poppy in the chorus for my liking, but that’s just a matter of opinion.
The times where they move away from pop and use synths with their signature rock sound, however, are arguably much more interesting. The arpeggio synth in ‘Blockades’ is the only thing that differentiates the track from earlier Muse material. The guitars are distorted, the riffs are heavy and Matt Bellamy’s voice is powerful and captivating. It would be naive to assume that just because there is synth, it must be a synth-pop record. Here, what we’re listening to is a heavy rock song from band who embody everything Black Mirror is about.
The album finale “The Void” opens with synth and Matt dismally sing: “They’ll say, no one can see us / That we’re estranged and all alone / They believe nothing can reach us / And pull us out of the boundless gloom.” The track also adds a surprise string section and we can’t help but feel like ‘The Void’ feels more like a mid-musical number than a Muse album closer.
Overall, Simulation Theory is creative and experimental, which is always admirable, especially coming from an old-time band like Muse. Despite having an established fan base, it’s great to see that they are continuously mixing things up. In places though, the album is uninspired and the whole obsession with the idea that robots are coming to kill us is getting old.
