]]>Missy Elliott’s first headlining tour was a long time coming, and she felt she was finally ready to do it after making history as the first female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just last year.
“This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts’… Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I had to do it with family!” she said in a statement.
Out Of This World – The Missy Elliott Experience will kick off with a concert in Vancouver, Canada on July 4. She’ll perform everywhere from Los Angeles and Seattle to Brooklyn and Las Vegas before wrapping up the tour on August 22 in Rosemont, Illinois. She’ll be joined by several amazing guests, including her producing partner Timbaland, plus Busta Rhymes and Ciara.

The lineup includes some of the biggest hits of the summer, and we’re yet to find out what to expect from Bad Bunny and Lizzo. “Truth Hurts” singer recently dropped the video for Missy Elliott collaboration “Tempo”, so we wouldn’t mind seeing them performing together.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcasted live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on August 26th. Stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco will host the ceremony for the first time ever.

]]>Bruce Gillmer, head of music and music talent for Viacom, broke the news in an official statement and explained why they decided to bestow the iconic rapper with this award.
“Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible. Her creative vision across production, performance, and songwriting is unmatched,” said Gillmer, and added they’ll celebrate her legacy with a series of celebrity and fan videos, and a pop-up museum.
The honorary Vanguard Award has been around since the inaugural VMAs in 1984. Missy Elliott will be in a pretty good company when she picks up her trophy since the list of the most recent recipients includes Jennifer Lopez, Pink, and Rihanna.
This year’s MTV VMAs will be aired live from the Prudential Center in Newark on August 26th, with Sebastian Maniscalco taking on the hosting duties. The list of nominees was topped by Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift, who received 10 nods each.

“When the Essence Festival was founded 25 years ago, it marked a pivotal moment of vision and reverence – a critical acknowledgement of and investment in the power of our culture. In the years since, it has set a standard that many other festivals have aspired to,” said Michelle Ebanks, CEO of Essence Communications.
This year’s Essence Fest will feature nearly 30 artists per night over 3 epic nights, taking place on July 4-7 at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans.

Elliot made her debut into rap in 1997 and won her first Grammy with “Get Ur Freak On” in 2001. She has a long list of writing credits, including works with Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson.
