If you hoped for new music from Lewis Capaldi this year, we have some bad news. The “Someone You Loved” singer recently told Daily Star that he won’t be releasing another album in 2020.

Capaldi released his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent back in 2019 to critical acclaim while topping the charts in the UK. The Scottish musician revealed that he was productive since, already having 50 songs in the bag.

“So far we’ve written like 50 songs for it and like three or four of them are good, which is a good ratio I think,” said Capaldi.

However, Capaldi will put off any releases until 2021.

“Hopefully I will release a new song and a new album next year,” he added. “I won’t release another album this year or anything.”

Despite not having original music out this year, Lewis Capaldi did treat his fans with a new release. Back in May, he shared live extended play, titled To Tell The Truth I Can’t Believe We Got This Far. The EP contains stripped-down versions of tracks from his debut release.

After weeks and weeks of climbing up the Billboard Hot 100, Lewis Capaldi finally reached the top spot! The British singer got his first no. 1 single on the chart with his breakout hit “Someone You Loved.”

This moving track was originally released on November 8th, 2018 as the third single from his EP Breach. It was later released as a part of his debut album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, and grabbed everyone’s attention thanks to a heartbreaking music video starring Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi.

“Someone You Loved” is Capaldi’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, and it spent a total of 24 weeks on the chart before reaching the top spot. This track previously made it to no. 1 in several other countries, including the UK and Ireland.

By climbing to the top spot, Lewis Capaldi dethroned Lizzo who spent seven weeks on no. 1 thanks to her smash hit “Truth Hurts”. This song currently shares the record with Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” for the longest reign for rap song by a female artist on Billboard Hot 100.

Lewis Capaldi has opened up about his newfound fame and has confessed he doesn’t think it will last very long.

The 22-year-old star recently achieved international acclaim following his hit single “Someone You Loved.” The track spent seven weeks at the top of the UK charts, making it one of the longest-running number-one hits in chart history.

Despite his global success, Capaldi is not convinced that the stint will last. “You can’t accept it as normality at all,” he told BBC Scotland “You have to say, ‘This is very weird and it’s gonna be for at least a couple of years.’”

“It’s so bizarre and I’m so convinced it’s not going to last very long, just because I think it’s at some size now where it’s like, this surely can’t go on any longer than a year. It already shouldn’t have gone on this long.”

He may be skeptical that the success will last but that does not mean that he is not enjoying the recognition.

“It’s wild, man,” he said. “You can’t ask for a better life. It’s just been wicked.”

You can stream Capaldi’s debut album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent on Spotify now.
