The post Watch Iggy Pop Cover Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side” With the Help of Special Guests appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>Pop performed the cover with the help of special guests, being joined by Guns N’ Roses’ bassist Duff McKagan and the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith on stage.
Reed released David Bowie-produced “Walk On The Wild Side” in 1972, and it soon became his signature song and arguably his biggest hit. Pop was close friends with both Reed and Bowie, and covering the track was most likely his way of honoring the two music legends.
Iggy Pop released Everyday Loser back in January, earning generally positive reviews from the critics. As part of promotional activities, he formed a star-studded backing band consisting of McKagan, Smith, ex-RHPC guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, and Grammy Award-winning producer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Watt.
Pop will have another show in LA as part of the tour while also making stops in San Francisco, Hollywood, and Las Vegas. He is then set to embark on a summer trip to Europe, where he’ll play a series of festival and solo shows.

]]>Talking to NME about his new album Free, pop praised the teenage Miami rapper’s songwriting. “I was so interested in the construction of a song a while ago called ‘Gucci Gang,’” he said. “He took, what, a minute to write it? He went straight to the hook and did the hook have a melody? Nooooo. Did it have a phrase? It had no pre-chorus. It’s just ‘Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang Gucci Gang’, and I thought, ‘This is great!’”
As mentioned above, Pop is not the first to endorse the rapper’s songwriting abilities. Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl compared the song to Minor Threat. It is also worth mentioning that the Stooges Creator is known for his not-so-generous wording in his songs – admitting that no song should contain more than 25 words.
So, do you agree with Pop, or do you prefer a little more complexity in your lyrics?

]]>The upcoming record will be his first since 2016’s Post Pop Depression. The album will explore the feeling of what it means to be free and will be released September 6.
Iggy introduced the record by saying: “This is an album in which other artists speak for me, but I lend my voice…”
“By the end of the tours following Post Pop Depression, I felt sure that I had rid myself of the problem of chronic insecurity that had dogged my life and career for too long,” he continued. “But I also felt drained. And I felt like I wanted to put on shades, turn my back, and walk away. I wanted to be free.
“I know that’s an illusion, and that freedom is only something you feel, but I have lived my life thus far in the belief that that feeling is all that is worth pursuing; all that you need – not happiness or love necessarily, but the feeling of being free. So this album just kind of happened to me, and I let it happen.”
