]]>“A Beautiful Game” was featured in the final episode of Season 3 of Ted Lasso, and it served as the proper sendoff to our favorite soccer coach. Ed Sheeran shared his Emmy for this song with his fellow co-writers Max Martin and Foy Vance and thanked the Television Academy for honoring them with an emotional post on social media.
Sheeran apologized for not accepting the award in person at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, explaining he’s currently touring across Asia, and also recalled co-writing and recording this song alongside Martin and Vance.
“Two years ago this month we got in together and wrote a song about love and football, and how it is always about the journey rather than the destination. I recorded a crowd at one of my stadium shows for it singing the final chant to keep it in the footie vibes,” wrote Sheeran on Instagram.
Sam Ryder’s “Fought & Lost” from Ted Lasso was also up for an Emmy Award for outstanding original music and lyrics, along with songs from Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia, Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q, Amazon Prime Video’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Roku’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

]]>Autumn Variations hit the shelves on September 29, and Sheeran released it through his own label Gingerbread Man. The album features a total of 14 tracks, inspired by the singer’s friends, but Sheeran opted not to drop any singles or music videos from this record and released ambiental live performances of the album’s tracklist instead.
Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Sheeran thanked everyone who helped make Autumn Variations the No. 1 album in the UK and added this award means more than any before it because this is his first album on his own record label Gingerbread Man Records.
“I had no expectations for the record other than for fans to love it and feel it was their own. It being on my own label meant it didn’t have the usual pressures or expectations, but to end up going #1 is mad and I really don’t take it for granted,” wrote Sheeran on Instagram.
To make the whole thing even better, Autumn Variations isn’t even Sheeran’s first album to top the charts in the UK this year. His final mathematical-themed album Subtract hit the shelves back in May, and it was the fastest-selling album of 2023 in the UK at the time, with 76,000 chart units earned during its first week.

]]>Ed Sheeran’s new album Autumn Variations was certainly the week’s most anticipated new release, and he did a great job hyping it up. He’s given us 14 new songs—each one inspired by one of his friends—and “American Town” made it to our list this time around.
This week also marked the release of Jorja Smith’s highly-anticipated new album Falling or Flying, which had several amazing songs fighting for our attention, including “Broken is the Man”. Becky G’s new LP Esquinas also swept us off our feet and gave us several amazing tunes, including “2ndo Chance” ft. Ivan Cornejo.
Our list includes several more fantastic collaborations, including The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Sounds Of Heaven” ft. Lady Gaga & Stevie Wonder, Jung Kook’s “3D” ft. Jack Harlow, and Empress Of’s “Kiss Me” ft. Rina Sawayama. *NSYNC’s comeback single “Better Place” and Bad Bunny’s viral hit “Un Preview” also made the cut, so stick around to hear them out.

]]>Sheeran never seemed too interested in breaking new grounds with his music, but that didn’t stop him from scoring chart-topping hits and filling stadiums all around the globe. He got out of his comfort zone after joining forces with Aaron Dessner for his last album Subtract, and they kept collaborating on Autumn Variations.
Dessner’s work with Taylor Swift on her 2020 albums Folklore and Evermore gave us some great songs, but results have been more uneven in Sheeran’s case. Autumn Variations suffers from the same mistakes he made with Subtract, and it’s too mellow and forgettable to make any real impact, but we can’t help but appreciate his effort to try something different.
Autumn Variations draws inspiration from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, and its 14 songs are dedicated to Sheeran’s friends who inspired them. The singer released this album through his own label Gingerbread Man Records and said he’s not planning to release any singles or music videos, making it clear he just wants to march to the beat of his own drum and do something nice for his fans.
It’s tough to single out any standout songs on this record because they eventually all blend into one. “American Town” and “England” emerged as fan favorites so far due to Sheeran’s ability to effortlessly draw us into his world with his immersive lyrics.
Autumn Variations may not be a groundbreaking or revolutionary record, but it serves its purpose. Sheeran’s fans will welcome it like a warm hug on a cold November day, while everyone else will probably want to skip to the next season.

]]>Sheeran did a great job promoting the release of Autumn Variations, his first non-collaborative LP outside of his mathematical era. In addition to releasing a regular album, Sheeran revealed that the live version of Autumn Variations is coming soon.
He shared the news on social media, revealing he made this album by doing surprise pop-up gigs in fans’ houses, recording each song in a different living room. He even agreed to play some of the songs from his previous albums for his fans, including “Wake Me Up” from his debut album Plus, which he then posted on social media.
Autumn Variations will hit the shelves on September 29, and it will feature 14 tracks honoring Sheeran’s friends, drawing inspiration from Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.
“I learned about my friend’s different situations, I wrote songs, some from their perspectives, some from mine, to capture how they and I viewed the world at that time. There were highs of falling in love and new friendships among lows of heartbreak, depression, loneliness, and confusion,” wrote Sheeran in his initial album announcement.

The British hitmaker started playing Eminem’s smash hit “Lose Yourself” before the rapper emerged on stage, and they went on to perform “Stan” by each other’s side, with Sheeran filling in for Dido’s parts.
Sheeran and Eminem go way back and they recorded several songs together, including “River”, “Those Kinda Nights”, and “Remember the Name” ft. 50 Cent. This performance is somewhat of a full-circle moment for the duo, since they had their very first studio session in Eminem’s studio in Detroit.
“Actually, [the] first time we met, we didn’t make music. I hung out there for about four hours, and we just spoke Marvel and Avengers for about four hours. And then the next time I went back, we made a tune,” said Sheeran while speaking to Apple Music back in 2021.
Sheeran’s The Mathematics Tour kicked off in April last year, and it includes a total of 88 shows that will keep him on the road until September 23.
