The British pop star just announced that he is releasing an entire album made out of collaborations. The record will be titled No.6 Collaborations Project and is scheduled for release on July 12th.

Alongside the announcement, Sheeran also released the second single for the album, “Cross Me” featuring Chance the Rapper and PNB Rock, on Apple Music and Spotify.

“Before I was signed in 2011, I made an EP called No.5 Collaborations Project. Since then, I’ve always wanted to do another, so I started No.6 on my laptop when I was on tour last year. I’m a huge fan of all the artists I’ve collaborated with and it’s been a lot of fun to make,” Sheeran said in a statement.

Although Sheeran revealed the full track list for the album on his Instagram, he chose not to reveal the artists featured on the songs.  

Ed Sheeran collaborated with an array of fellow musicians since releasing his critically acclaimed third studio album ÷ in 2017. The list includes Taylor Swift, Eminem, Beyoncé, and Andrea Bocelli.

The goal of the contest is to raise awareness and funding for the charity Drop4Drop, which strives to provide clean water access to people around the globe. The contest is currently underway and will be open until the end of the August, while the winner will be revealed on September 7th. “The prize is, I will teach you to play one of my songs on guitar, and then you’ll get a guitar that I’ll sign and give to you at the end of our lesson,” Sheeran explains in the promotion video for the contest.

“The lesson will take place backstage at my gig at MetLife Stadium. So you’ll also get to go to that gig. I will pay for you to be there, so I’ll fly you out to New York, cover your hotel and give you tickets to the show,” he adds.

Songwriter, which will offer “an intimate and personal look into the writing process” of Ed Sheeran, will be released on August 28th, exclusively on Apple Music.

“Songwriter gives viewers a unique glimpse into the songwriting process,” said Sheeran in a press release. “Murray’s film brilliantly documents the hard work and DNA that goes into creating a song from start to finish.”

The documentary was filmed over a course of a decade by Sheeran’s cousin Murray Cummings, who followed the Grammy Award-winning musician during his tours and recording sessions and documented a good part of it on camera.

“I decided to make something different,” said Cummings about the project. “I wasn’t going to show fame. I didn’t want paparazzi, screaming fans or big stadiums. I didn’t want to have sit down interviews because I didn’t want to tell the audience how something came to be, I just wanted to show them. And I wanted the focus to be the songwriting.”

Before receiving its worldwide release on Apple Music, Songwriter will also have a festival run including screenings at Berlin Film Festival and Tribeca Film Festival. The documentary will see a short theatrical run in New York starting August 17th and Los Angeles starting August 24th.
