]]>Rockstar debuted at no. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, behind Drake’s For All the Boys and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version). It’s the highest-charting new album this week with 128,000 equivalent album units earned, consisting of 118,500 in album sales, 8,000 in SEA units, and 1,500 in TEA units.
Rockstar is the highest-charting album of Parton’s career, and the third to hit the top ten, following Blue Smoke from 2014 and her collaborative album Trio with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris from 1987, which both hit no. 6.
Rockstar also helped Parton score the biggest sales week for an album in the modern era, in addition to marking her biggest week by units earned since Billboard embraced this charting system in 2014. It also debuted atop the Top Country and Top Rock Albums charts.
Rockstar was released on November 17, and it marks Parton’s first foray into the rock genre. It features both original songs and covers of beloved rock classics, recorded alongside the likes of Sting, Miley Cyrus, Debbie Harry, Elton John, Lizzo, and Paul McCartney.

]]>After months of anticipation, the country legend Dolly Parton finally dropped her highly-anticipated album Rockstar—and it was worth waiting for. Her first dive into the rock’n’roll genre is a worthy endeavor and it gave us many amazing collaborations, including the cover of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” feat. P!nk & Brandi Carlile.
It’s only fitting to kick off our list with an amazing girl power collaboration since it’s been an epic week for female vocalists overall. Some of our favorite pop and R&B girlies made it to our list this week, including Tate McRae with “Exes”, “Ari Lennox” with Get Close, and Reneé Rapp with “I Do”.
The rest of our list is equally impressive, so stick around to discover new music by the indie groups Bleachers and Boygenius, the new A-list remix of Tyla’s “Water”, and K-pop band Red Velvet’s new bop “Chill Kill”.

]]>In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Parton revealed she was asked to perform at the Super Bowl “many times” but always decided to say no.
“I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it – to do that big of a production. When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production,” said Parton.
This wasn’t the first time Parton’s modesty almost cost her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Back in 2022, she was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but initially declined the offer because she didn’t feel like she “earned the right” to compete with other rock artists. She later changed her mind and was eventually announced as one of the inductees.
Following her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Parton decided to release an album of rock covers and original songs titled Rockstar, which will be released on November 17.

]]>In an interview with The Independent, Parton jokingly said that “everything” about her, including “any intelligence” was artificial anyway, adding that there are ways to keep her here without turning to high-tech innovations.
“I think I’ve left a great body of work behind. I have to decide how much of that high-tech stuff I want to be involved [with] because I don’t want to leave my soul here on this earth. I think with some of this stuff I’ll be grounded here forever,” she told The Independent.
Even without Parton’s contribution, the music industry is not suffering from the shortage of holograms of beloved musicians. Whitney Houston became a hologram during the posthumous concert tour called An Evening with Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Tour, while ABBA just recently hopped on this trend with a residency concert in London called ABBA: Voyage.
Parton is too busy these days to think about becoming a hologram anyway. She’s gearing up for the release of her first rock and roll album Rockstar, which will feature collaborations with Sting, Miley Cyrus, Joan Jett, Elton John, Steven Tyler, Kid Rock, and many more.

]]>Rockstar will feature a total of nine original songs and 21 covers, each one more amazing than the last. Queen’s “We Are the Champions”, Prince’s “Purple Rain”, and Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” are only some of the all-time classics she’ll cover on this album.
Parton said she was excited to finally present her very first rock’n’roll album and thanked all the artists who made this possible.
“I am very honored and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!” the country legend said in a statement.
Parton has been plotting Rockstar ever since she was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, and she reached out to several dream collaborators who agreed to join her. Rockstar will be released on November 17, with “World on Fire” serving as its first single.

Jack Harlow’s Jackman came out of nowhere—quite literarily—since the rapper announced its release just a few days before dropping ten new songs, including “Common Ground”. Labrinth and Diplo also released new albums this week and gave us a few amazing collaborations along the way.
Bebe Rexha’s latest album Bebe is also a collaboration-heavy record featuring several music legends, starting with the country icon Dolly Parton, featured on her new single “Seasons”.
Our list this week also includes new songs from Kesha, PJ Harvey, Niall Horan, and Jessie Ware, so check it out and choose your favorite.

]]>The country legend Parton hosted the Academy of Country Music Awards on several occasions in the past, both solo and with fellow co-hosts Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett. She’s excited to do it with Brooks this time around because they’ve wanted to work together for a long time.
“We’ve always admired each other musically and as people and how we handle our business. So this is a great thrill for me. I think the fans are going to enjoy seeing us together, ‘cause Lord knows he’s got fans and I got a few,” Parton told Billboard.
This will mark the first hosting duty for Brooks, but he’s no stranger to taking the ACM Awards stage. He collected 22 awards at this ceremony in the past, including the record-setting six trophies for entertainer of the year.
Parton and Brooks will hit the ACM Awards stage on May 11 at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, and the list of nominees is yet to be announced.

]]>We’re used to Parton and Cyrus performing “Jolene” by each other’s side, but we’ve seen them sing a few more songs together this time around. One of the show’s best moments blended Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” and Parton’s ”I Will Always Love You” together in perfect harmony.
Cyrus rang in the new year by teasing some new music, starting with a new single “Flowers”, set to launch on January 13. She also started a countdown on her official website, teasing something that’s set to come out in just three days, but we’re yet to find out what.
One of the most epic moments at Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party came when Sia and Paris Hilton joined Cyrus on stage. The trio performed an amazing rendition of Hilton’s 2006 hit “Stars Are Blind”, giving us major nostalgia overload along the way.

]]>The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony returned to LA’s Microsoft Theater on November 5 and it was a night to remember! In addition to Parton and Eminem, the list of this year’s inductees also included the soul singer Lionel Richie, band Duran Duran, new wave duo Eurythmics, rock star Pat Benatar, and singer-songwriter Carly Simon.
This year’s ceremony was one for the books because it covered a diverse range of genres, ranging from hip-hop and soul to country. Parton famously tried to bow out of consideration because she didn’t feel deserving of the honor as a country artist, but the ballots were already sent out to the voters so she agreed to gracefully accept this honor.
“I’m a rock star now! This is a very special night for me. When they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t really feel like I had done enough to deserve that… But I’m just honored and so proud to be here tonight,” said Parton in her acceptance speech.

]]>The Jolene singer reached out to Joel and Luke Smallbone after being inspired by the hopeful message of this song, and they were beyond honored to record the cover by her side.
“When we originally spoke to Dolly Parton on the phone, her words were ‘When I first heard God Only Knows I thought it was one of the best songs I’d ever heard. I feel that this is a good song for right now. I know that it touched me at a time when I needed to be lifted up’ and our jaws fell on the floor,” wrote the duo on Instagram.
“God Only Knows” isn’t the first song that recently saw Parton joining forces with modern artists. Back in 2018, she recorded the song “Here I Am” for Dumplin’ soundtrack alongside Sia, and recently dropped a cover of her 1973 hit “I Will Always Love You” with Kristin Chenoweth.
