Boygenius have given us one of the best indie albums of 2023 with The Record, but it turns out this LP could’ve been a tiny bit better. Phoebe Bridgers recently revealed that Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl was almost featured on the supergroups’ debut album.

Bridgers discussed a Dave Grohl collaboration that never was in a recent interview with NME. She revealed they met backstage at a Billie Eilish concert and later linked up again through a mutual friend who toured with Foo Fighters.

Grohl was even supposed to be featured on Boygenius’ album The Record, but this plan eventually fell through because he “slept through” the session and never showed up, but Bridgers harbors no hard feelings towards him.

“I was texting the boys, being like, ‘I met Dave Grohl, and he exceeds every expectation of how a rock star can be in the world’. I think we, as a group, look for that a lot – like, who is living their life the way that we want to get old and live our lives?” said Bridgers.

Boygenius didn’t need Grohl on The Record for this album to become a huge success. The supergroup formed by Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus scored multiple Grammy nominations with this album, including album of the year and record of the year for “Not Strong Enough”.

Glastonbury is one of the year’s most highly-anticipated festivals, and the latest edition lived up to the hype. From Elton John’s historic set to Lewis Capaldi’s emotional stage fright, we’re bringing you some viral moments that this year’s Glastonbury will be remembered by.

Elton John’s Career-Spanning Set

Elton John performed his last UK show at Glastonbury, and it was one for the books! He brought everyone from The Killers’ Brandon Flowers to Rina Sawayama on stage while performing some of his biggest hits.

A-List Surprise Guests

Speaking of surprise guests, Glastonbury was an embarrassment of the riches. Paul McCartney and Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl joined The Pretenders on stage, while Jack Harlow performed “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X’s side.

Lewis Capaldi’s Stage Fright

Lewis Capaldi was very open about his struggles with Tourette’s syndrome, and his ticks kicked in at Glastonbury. In one of the festival’s most emotional moments, the crowd sang his smash hit “Someone You Loved” after his voice broke, giving him enough time to gain composure.

Rina Sawayama Calling Out Matty Healy

Rina Sawayama delivered one of the festival’s most viral moments when she subtly called out The 1975’s Matty Healy for some of his problematic behavior before performing the song “STFU”.

Lana Del Rey’s Set Cut Short

Lana Del Rey’s performance was dramatically cut short at midnight due to the festival’s curfew, and fans were left with a sour taste in their mouth after security escorted her off stage.

It seems like Foo Fighters will soon gift us a new record. The group’s frontman Dave Grohl decided to spill the beans on the new album in a recent interview and share that it’s already finished.

Grohl dropped the news on The Bill Simmons Podcast, where he also revealed that the album will contain a riff that he first thought of 25 years ago.

“We just finished making a record,” said Grohl. “Some of those songs, the best ones happen in 45 minutes. Then there’s other songs — there’s a riff on the new record I’ve been working on for 25 years. The first time I demoed it was in my basement in Seattle.”

This isn’t all, however. Grohl also talked about his new documentary, which will talk about bands touring in a van. According to him, the project will feature contributions from some of music’s biggest stars.

“I’ve interviewed everybody,” said Grohl about the documentary. “The Beatles toured in a van, Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, U2, everybody has had a van. There’s something about that time, you wear it like a badge.”

The new Foo Fighters album was first confirmed back in October when Dave Grohl told the audience in Brazil that the band will get in the studio after they wrap up their tour. This new record will serve as a follow up to 2017’s Concrete and Gold and will be the band’s 10th LP.

Sadly, Kurt Cobain wasn’t on the stage but the other surviving members of Nirvana – Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear performed a short set together at The Art of Elysium’s annual “Heaven is Rock and Roll” gala. Beck and Annie Clark aka St. Vincent provided the vocals and lead guitar.

The short set contained only 5 songs: the band played “Lithium”, “In Bloom,” and “Been a Son”. Then, violet, Grohl’s 13-year-old daughter, sang “Heart shaped box” which was followed by “The Man Who Sold the World” – the famous cover of David Bowie’s song the band performed at their iconic 1994 MTV Unplugged performance.

“We said we weren’t going to do this for another four or five years but we couldn’t resist the temptation,” Novoselic told the crowd during the show. Among other artists that performed in the gala were L7, Marilyn Manson, and cheap trick. The event also featured giant poster art by artist Kii Arens.

In celebration of The Beatles’ Abbey Road’s 50th-anniversary, BBC 2 aired an hour-long show featuring Dave Grohl who played his favorite Beatles songs. Grohl chose songs that have special meaning to him and shared stories about how they shaped his life and career.

One noteworthy pick was “In My Life”, which Grohl explained, “means a lot to me, because it was the song that was played at Kurt Cobain’s memorial.” Referencing, of course, the deceased frontman of Nirvana, Grohl’s old band.

“That day, after everyone had said their piece, this next song came over the speakers. And everyone got to celebrate Kurt’s love of The Beatles one last time together,” Grohl went on, emotionally. “Still to this day, when I hear it, it touches a place in me that no other song ever will. It’s called ‘In My Life’ and knowing how much of a fan Kurt was of The Beatles, and how much of an influence they were, to everything we’ve done ever done…I’d like to play this one for him.”

Another important pick for Grohl was “Hey Jude,” which he said was the first song of The Beatles he had ever heard. “I remember having a sleepover at a friend’s house when I was four or five years old and listening to ‘Hey Jude’ [. . .] I remember that night, laying in my sleeping bag and singing along to the na-na-nas at the end of the song.”

We’ve been given hints, we’ve been teased, but it seems that now it’s finally official: Foo Fighters are about ready to start working on their new album!

The confirmation came last week when frontman Dave Grohl told crowds at the Rock In Rio festival that work on the new album will commence once the band returns from Brazil to the US.

“I don’t know when we’ll be back down here again,” Grohl told Foo Fighters’ Brazilian fans, “but we will. We go home next week and we start making a new Foo Fighters record. It’s good, it’s good.”

That Foo Fighters were preparing materials for a follow-up to 2017’s Concrete & God has been known for a while, but this is the first time we were given a concrete timeframe. In August this year, Grohl told NME, “There’s always something. I’m constantly writing but not always seriously, then at some point, they become a little more formed.”

“When I feel like they’re ready, that’s when I bring them to the band. We’re not that far along in any kind of official process, but there’s always something.”

It seems like that certain “something” has coalesced into enough material for the band to hit the studio next week — and we couldn’t be more excited!

Nirvana’s surviving members – Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic – together with Geffen Records and Universal Music have just given the band’s fans a rare treat. The 1993 performance, Live and Loud is now, for the first time, available in full on YouTube.

The set that the band performed at Seattle’s Pier 48, alongside their unplugged set on MTV, is considered to be one of the best shows played by the band. It consists of 17 songs and was initially performed after the release of In Utero, the last studio album of the band. It contains songs such as “Scentless Apprentice,” “Pennyroyal Tea,” “Rape Me,” “Serve the Servants,” “Sliver,” “Heart Shaped Box” and other songs from the album. The only song from the show that hadn’t made its way to YouTube is their cover of David Bowie’s song The Man Who Sold the World.

It is not the first time this performance became available to the fans. It was included on the 2013 special release of the deluxe edition of In Utero which was released in honor of the album’s 20th anniversary. Earlier this year, Grohl and Novoselic announced that it will also be made available on streaming services.

According to drummer Taylor Hawkins, the Foo Fighters are planning on releasing an album next year.

The Dave Grohl rock band released their last album Concrete and Gold in 2017. The record was their ninth studio album and it has now been revealed that the band is planning album number 10, to be released next year.

It has also been two years since the Queens of the Stone Age released their last album so we can assume that Grohl is currently more focused on his work with the Foo Fighters. Speaking to RockSound.TV, Hawkins said:

“Well, from what I’ve heard from our fearless leader Dave Grohl, he has a lot of demos that he’s worked on and I think we’ll start, once this tour is over. I think not too soon after that we’ll start the process of putting the songs together as a band.”

He added: “It’s a long process, we do a lot of demoing and stuff, but I think that we’ll have, I’m hoping, I think we’ll have a new record by next year. We should.”

Them Crooked Vultures dropped an album in 2009 and have disappeared off the radar since. It’s hardly surprising, considering that Dave Grohl has been busy with Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters. He has even made time for a couple of Nirvana reunion shows.

Still, fans can’t help but feel a little cheated that Them Crooked Vultures only offered up one album. The band features Grohl along with the legendary Led Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones. Fellow Queens of the Stone Age band member Josh Homme was on vocals and the result was one hell of a superband.

Technically we’re still a band,” Grohl told The Guardian. “We practice once every decade, and we’re coming up on another decade, aren’t we? I don’t have any official news but there’s always something cooking.”

Although Grohl’s making no promises, we’re holding onto that flicker of hope. By the sounds of it, Grohl is in as much awe as we are of the collaboration.

“There are times when you’ve relaxed into a sofa and you’re not thinking about his time in Led Zeppelin,” he added. “Then you start playing and you’re immediately reminded that you are a musical speck compared to this man. It’s still hard to accept that I got to play in a band with that guy.”

We may not have any Them Crooked Vultures updates for a while, but in the meantime, you can enjoy this throwback track:

Queens of the Stone Age are working on a follow-up to their 2017 album Villain, and it’s shaping up to be pretty amazing. The band’s next record will feature collaborations with Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and ZZ Top guitarist Billy Gibbons.

Surprisingly enough, Gibbons was the one who spilled the beans during a recent performance at Hellfest, and revealed how amazing it was to catch up with everyone involved.

“Just one month ago, I was making a record with Queens of the Stone Age, and Dave Grohl was also taking part, and he decided to have a big barbecue. So there was this interesting gathering. So, we spent one hour telling stories, great stories remembering these lovely guys,” said Gibbons to EON Music.

Both artists are no strangers to collaborating with Queens of the Stone Age. Dave Grohl served as band’s main drummer while they recorded their critically acclaimed 2002 album Songs for the Deaf. Billy Gibbons was one of the artist they collaborated on their hit single “Burn the Witch” from the 2005 album Lullabies to Paralyze.
