]]>The post Coldplay’s “Yellow” Becomes Their Fifth Song in YouTube’s Billion Views Club appeared first on Hot Pop Today.
]]>“Yellow” was originally released as the second single from Coldplay’s debut album Parachutes in 2000. It became the band’s breakout hit and helped thrust them into popularity, despite only peaking at No. 48 in the US and reaching No. 4 in the UK.
“Yellow” is the British band’s fifth song to reach one billion views on YouTube, following in the footsteps of “Paradise”, “Adventure of a Lifetime”, “The Scientist”, and “Hymn for the Weekend” ft. Beyoncé.
The song’s minimalistic music video remains as iconic as the song itself and features one continuous shot with no cuts. It shows the band’s frontman Chris Martin singing the song while walking along the beach in slow motion.
The legacy of this song has been cemented by its frequent usage in popular culture, in addition to countless covers and samples, including Lizzo’s “Coldplay” from her album Special.
“Yellow” remains one of Coldplay’s signature hits and it made it to multiple lists of the best songs of the 21st century, including Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s list of “Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll”.

]]>Chris Martin and his bandmates were simultaneously performing in Gothenburg, Sweden, while John’s final Farewell Tour show was happening at Stockholm’s Tele2Arena. They took a moment to tune in via a video broadcast, which was beamed out at the musicians’ respective concerts in Sweden after Coldplay delivered an emotional cover of John’s all-time classic “Rocketman”.
Martin addressed John directly in the touching video and reflected on many amazing things he has done over the years.
“Elton, from all of us here, from all the bands and all the artists that you’ve loved and inspired and helped, we just love you so much. We are so grateful for everything you’ve done for us, everything you’ve done for the AIDS Foundation. Every time you’ve been kind to anybody,” said Martin.
John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road came to a close in Stockholm on July 8, after five years and 333 shows. It made history as the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first one to ever cross the $900 million mark.

]]>With this music video, Coldplay wanted to pay homage to the “best fans in the world” and put their experience front and center. The intimate visual shows them performing in front of a massive crowd of nearly 260,000 fans and making this experience a part of the “Humankind” music video makes total sense since they couldn’t wait to perform it live.
“Humankind was probably the hardest song to record on the album, just because we couldn’t quite get the feel of it right until the end of the sessions. And then suddenly it all clicked into place and now we’re really excited to play it live,” wrote Jonny Buckland on Twitter.
“Humankind” is one of the songs featured on Coldplay’s latest album Music of the Spheres, which was released in October last year. BTS collaboration “My Universe” debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, transforming Coldplay into the first British band in history to achieve that feat. This album also produced hit singles “Higher Power” and “Let Somebody Go”.
