Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars dropped “Die With a Smile” back in August and released several different versions in an attempt to help it reach No. 1. After facing tough competition, especially during the holiday season, they spent four consecutive weeks at the runner-up spot before climbing to No. 1.

“Die With a Smile” accumulated 59.7 million radio airplay audience impressions, 27.1 million official streams, and 6,000 in sales during its latest week on the chart. It’s Mars’ ninth song to Hit No. 1 and Gaga’s sixth, helping her become the third artist to achieve multiple No. 1s in three different decades following Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson.

Before finally climbing to No. 1 in the US, “Die With a Smile” found enormous success worldwide. It spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Global 200 chart, becoming the second longest-reigning song of 2024 behind another Mars collaboration, “Apt.” with Rosé. It’s currently in the running for two Grammy Awards – song of the year and best pop duo/group performance.

This week has been pretty slow in terms of major album releases, but that didn’t stop Bon Iver from rocking our world with their new EP Sable. The indie folk band shared four new songs on this record, each one amazing in its own right, but “Things Behind Things Behind Things” emerged as our favorite.

Speaking of new albums, Kylie Minogue returned with the sequel album Tension II, continuing her ongoing love affair with electronic music. In addition to collaborations with Bebe Rexha, Tove Lo, Sia, and The Blessed Madonna, the Australian singer prepared several solo songs, such as “Someone For Me”.

It was a great week for female vocalists overall, with artists from all genres and corners of the world making it to our list. The music video for this A-list collaboration sees Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars performing “Die with a Smile” performing the song on a vintage stage of a TV studio set, rocking retro red-and-blue outfits while playing their portions on a guitar and a piano.

“Die with a Smile” came together after the duo pulled an all-nighter at a studio, and they were blown away by each other’s talent.

“Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other and were talking about collaborating. I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on,” said Lady Gaga in a statement.

The duo already delivered the first live performance of “Die with a Smile” during Mars’ recent show at the opening of the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, where they wore matching outfits similar to the ones from the video.

Mars announced the duo’s withdrawal from awards consideration in a statement shared with Rolling Stone and thanked everyone who supported and championed their album An Evening with Silk Sonic.

“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year. We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party,” said Mars.

This announcement stirred a lot of confusion, especially since Silk Sonic won four awards at the Grammys with “Leave the Door Open”, including the record of the year and song of the year. Mars also thanked the Grammys for awarding them and letting them perform at the ceremony, adding they’d be crazy to ask for anything more.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. released an official statement, saying they appreciate their decision not to submit this year and praised them for being “such a fun highlight” at the last couple of shows.

Just like the music videos for the duo’s previous singles, the “Smokin’ Out the Window” visual is as stylish as it gets and it has a strong retro vibe. Mars and Paak are shown performing their latest single on an old school TV set while rocking matching wide lapel tuxedo jackets.

Silk Sonic broke into the scene with their debut single “Leave the Door Open” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was followed by “Skate” at number 14 and we’re excited to see how well “Smokin’ Out the Window” will do once it enters the chart.

All three singles are expected to be featured on the duo’s debut joint album An Evening with Silk Sonic, which will feature a total of nine songs including a collaboration with Thundercat and Bootsy Collins. The album will be released on November 12th by Aftermath Entertainment and Atlantic Records.

Mars confirmed the news on Twitter with the accompanying art writing, “We locked in and made an album. The band’s called Silk Sonic. First song drops next Friday.”

The artwork promises legendary Parliamentarian, Bootsy Collins, as a “special guest host”.

The artists have worked together before as tourmates when .Paak opened for Mars on the 24K Magic tour. They also put in separate appearances on the Chic album It’s About Time three years ago.

Mars won the triple crown at the 2018 Grammys for his last album, 2016’s 24K Magic, picking up Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Song of the Year.

.Paak released his last album, Ventura, in 2019 and has been releasing one-offs since. In 2020, he released four non-album singles including a Trollz soundtrack collaboration with Justin Timberlake.
