This year’s Grammy Awards were one star-studded affair, and they’ve given us many amazing moments to remember. Beyoncé finally collected the long-awaited album of the year prize, while Kendrick Lamar topped the list of winners after walking away with five trophies for his smash hit “Not Like Us”.

Beyoncé’s wait for the album of the year victory finally ended this Sunday night, when she came out victorious with her country-themed record Cowboy Carter. This album also won her a historic prize for the best country album, transforming her into the first Black female artist to collect this award.

Kendrick Lamar also had a reason to celebrate on Sunday night, after winning awards in all the categories he was nominated for and walking away with five trophies. He won song and record of the year with the viral hit “Not Like Us”, in addition to the best music video, best rap song, and best rap performance.

Charli XCX joined Beyoncé as one of the artists to walk away with three awards, including the best dance/electronic album for Brat. Sierra Ferrell was also among the top winners after dominating the Americana field with four awards, while St. Vincent won three in the alternative categories.

The 2025 Grammy Awards returned to Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, with Trevor Noah hosting the festivities for the fifth consecutive time.

After 12 amazing months in the world of music, 2024 is coming to a close. It’s been another groundbreaking year for our favorite artists and saw them pushing the boundaries of their craft. If you’re in the mood to end the year on a high note, take a look back at some epic albums we’ve been listening to on repeat in 2024.

Sabrina Carpenter – Short n’ Sweet

After trying to break into the mainstream for a decade, Sabrina Carpenter finally got her moment to shine in 2024. Short n’ Sweet put her on everyone’s radar, and its singles “Espresso”, “Please Please Please”, and “Taste” were among the biggest hits of 2024.

Kendrick Lamar – GNX

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” was one of the defining songs of 2024, and he kept the moment going by dropping a surprise album GNX. It featured 12 brand-new tracks, including chart-topping single “Squabble Up” and collaborations with SZA and Roddy Ricch.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft

Hit Me Hard and Soft didn’t create as much commotion as its predecessors, but it did a great job capturing Billie Eilish’s evolution as an artist, in addition to giving us hit singles “Lunch” and “Birds of a Feather”.

Charli XCX – Brat

Charli XCX has given us one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of 2024 with her album Brat. It resulted in the viral “Brat summer” trend, in addition to producing such hit songs as “Apple”, “Girl, So Confusing” ft. Lorde”, “Von Dutch”, and “360”.

Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter

Beyoncé made us fall in love with country with her latest album Cowboy Carter. The perfect illustration of her versatility as an artist, this record has given us the viral hit “Texas Hold ‘Em” and collaborations with Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone.

We can count on Beyoncé to rock our world every time she hits the stage, and she took things to the next level during the NFL 2024 Christmas Day Halftime Show. Her performance immediately broke the internet and gave us countless memorable moments, and here are a few that got everyone talking.

Cowboy Carter Celebration

Beyoncé’s latest performance took place in her hometown of Houston, Texas, and her tracklist mostly consisted of songs from her latest album Cowboy Carter. The country-themed show saw her performing some of the tracks from this record for the first time, including “Ya Ya”, “My House”, and her version of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”.

Surprise Guests

Beyoncé didn’t have to do it all alone, and she brought many of her Cowboy Carter collaborators along for the ride. Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, and Reyna Roberts joined her for the cover of “Blackbiird”, before Post Malone and Shaboozey hit the stage.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” Grand Finale

Queen B wrapped up her performance with an epic rendition of “Texas Hold ‘Em”, which also featured elements of “Pony Up” and “Break My Soul”. Her daughter Blue Ivy Carter was one of dozens of dancers joining her for the line dance during this song.

Mystery Announcement

Beyoncé also shared a surprise Christmas present with her fans at the end of her performance, revealing there’s a mystery announcement coming our way on January 14, 2025.

It’s been over a decade since Beyoncé’s iconic Super Bowl halftime show, and she’s getting ready to perform at another major NFL event. The Christmas game between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens will air live on Netflix, with Queen B serving as the halftime show performer.

The Texans will host the Ravens at NRG Stadium in Beyoncé’s hometown of Houston, Texas, and she decided to make the game extra-special. NFL’s Christmas Gameday will air live on Netflix on December 25, with Beyoncé performing during the halftime show produced by Parkwood Entertainment and Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Netflix announced the news by sharing the teaser that sees Beyoncé standing atop a car covered in roses and catching a ball coming her way. She’s wearing a red, white, and blue leather outfit and cowboy hat, reminiscent of the imagery she embraced on her latest album Cowboy Carter, and some of her collaborators are expected to serve as special guests during the show.

Beyoncé’s concept album Cowboy Carter was inspired by the overlooked impact of Black artists on country and Americana music, and it was welcomed with rave reviews following its release in March. It earned 11 nominations at the upcoming Grammy Awards, including album of the year, plus song and record of the year for its lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em”.

Beyoncé made a transition to country with her latest album Cowboy Carter, and her experiment certainly paid off. The list of Grammy Awards nominations is in, and Queen B emerged as the top contender with 11 nods, making history as the most nominated artist ever with a total of 99 nods.

Beyoncé won historic 32 Grammys across her career – more than any other artist in history – but never got a chance to lift the album of the year trophy. She’ll get another shot with Cowboy Carter, but she’ll have to beat tough competition in the likes of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Billie Eilish.

Beyoncé is also competing in the other two main categories, song and record of the year, with her smash hit “Texas Hold ‘Em”. “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, “Good Luck Babe” by Chappell Roan, and “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar also made the cut in both categories.

Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are both in the running for the “big four” awards. In addition to making it to the three main categories with their breakout albums The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and Short n’ Sweet, they’re also nominated for the best new artist.

The 2025 Grammy Awards will take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025, with live broadcast on CBS and Paramount+.

The People’s Choice Country Awards are a fairly new awards show, but they’re already doing a great job recognizing top talent. The list of nominees for the second ceremony is here, and Beyoncé, Zach Bryan, Kacey Musgraves, and Shaboozey are some of the major contenders.

Beyoncé made a shift to country with her latest album Cowboy Carter, and her decision to experiment with this genre is paying off. Her first country album earned her 17 nominations at the upcoming People’s Choice Country Awards, including artist and album of the year.

Beyoncé is also in the running in the categories the female artist of the year, song of the year with “Texas Hold ‘Em”, female song, collaboration, cover song, crossover song, and storyteller song of the year, in addition to being one of the contenders for the social country star of 2024.

Zach Bryan will enter this year’s People’s Choice Country Awards as the most-nominated artist ahead of Beyoncé, with 19 nominations. The list of major nominees also includes Kacey Musgraves with 15 nods, Shaboozey with 12, and Kane Brown and Morgan Wallen with 11 each.

Beyoncé gave us one of the buzziest albums in recent months with Cowboy Carter, and the first week’s sales reflect its enormous success. Queen B’s country-inspired record soared to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with the largest week for any album released this year.

Cowboy Carter hit No. 1 with 407,000 equivalent album units during its debut week. It earned Beyoncé the largest streaming week of her career, and SEA units comprise 232,000 of the album’s total units, equaling 300.41 million official streams.

Cowboy Carter also easily topped Billboard’s Album Sales charts, with 168,000 units earned in traditional album sales. Vinyl copies made up 62,000 of those units, helping Beyoncé score the largest vinyl week of her career so far.

To make the whole thing even more impressive, Cowboy Carter also Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and it’s quite historic to see it hit No. 1. It’s the first album by a female Black artist to ever climb to the top of this chart.

Cowboy Carter hit the shelves on March 29, as a second act of the trilogy which Beyoncé initially kicked off with Renaissance. She promoted it with the lead single “Texas Hold ‘Em”, which made history as the first song by a Black female artist to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

March has finally approached its final week, and our favorite artists are wrapping it up in style! Beyoncé leads our list of the best songs of the week alongside Miley Cyrus following the release of Cowboy Carter, but Vampire Weekend, Twenty One Pilots, and St. Vincent also made the cut.

No album this week created more buzz than Beyoncé’s brilliant new record Cowboy Carter, which will change the way you look at country. Each of the 27 songs on Queen B’s barrier-breaking new album deserves a spot on our list, and we decided to go with “II Most Wanted” ft. Miley Cyrus.

Most mainstream artists made a smart decision and avoided releasing new singles to avoid competing with Beyoncé, but that didn’t stop indie acts from sharing new music with the world.

Some of our favorite alternative rock bands dropped new music this past week, starting with Vampire Weekend’s “Mary Boone”, Twenty One Pilots’ “Next Semester”, and Kings Of Leon’s “Split Screen”. Sum 41 bid farewell with their final album Heaven :x: Hell, which produced their latest single “Dopamine”.

As for the rest of our list for this week, you’ll find everything from Latin collaborations, including “It Was Always You” by Carin León and Leon Bridges and “BYAK” by Alvaro Diaz and Rauw Alejandro, St. Vincent’s “Flea” featuring Dave Grohl on the drums, and several girl power bops, such as Isabel LaRosa’s “Favorite” and Becky Hill’s “Outside of Love”.

Twenty One Pilots – “Next Semester”

St. Vincent – “Flea”

Vampire Weekend – “Mary Boone”

Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus – “II Most Wanted”

Kings Of Leon – “Split Screen”

Carin León, Leon Bridges – “It Was Always You”

Isabel LaRosa – “Favorite”

Becky Hill – “Outside of Love”

Sum 41 – “Dopamine”

Alvaro Diaz, Rauw Alejandro – “BYAK”

Beyoncé never shied away from experimenting with different genres, but her decision to embrace country was a true stroke of genius. Her long-awaited Cowboy Carter is a love letter to country’s Black roots we’ve been waiting for, and it cements Queen B’s legacy as one of the most versatile artists of her generation.

Beyoncé made it clear that Cowboy Carter isn’t a country album, but a “Beyoncé album” when she first announced its title, and she doubled down on this statement from the very first track. “American Requiem” infuses the album with gospel vibes, and sees Queen B addressing claims she doesn’t belong on the country scene.

Her cover of The Beatles’ “Blackbird” continued exploring the overlooked impact of African-American artists on this genre, and it saw her joining forces with several Black female country stars. Despite its brilliance, her version of “Jolene” is the album’s best cover and one of the signature tracks, shedding a new, defiant light on the Dolly Parton classic we all know and love.

Parton also joined Cowboy Carter as one of Beyoncé’s A-list collaborators on the track “Tyrant” – and she wasn’t the only one! She also brought Willie Nelson, Post Malone, Linda Martell, and Shaboozey on board, but duet “II Most Wanted” ft. Miley Cyrus is definitely the album’s most brilliant collaboration.

Beyoncé shines as brightly all on her own, and previously released solo singles “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” carry us through the first half of the album. “Bodyguard”, “Ya Ya”, and “Riverdance” are also worth listening to on repeat, while “Amen” brings things full circle, in a gospel-inspired fashion of the album’s opener. “American Requiem”.

When Beyoncé first revealed the tracklist of Cowboy Carter, the long list of titles left everyone puzzled, but it turned out all 27 of them were actual songs. Some of them are intros and snippets, and not every single one will have a long-term impact, but they all work in the grand scheme of things, serving as worthy building blocks in Cowboy Carter’s legacy.

Cowboy Carter is a true genre-defying masterpiece that perfectly blends the country sound with pop, R&B, soul, and rock, reminding us there’s nothing Beyoncé can’t do. It’s proof that she’s still capable of reinviting herself after almost three decades, and it breathes a new life into a genre where she once felt out of place.

Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” is a Masterful Love Letter to Country’s Roots https://hotpoptoday.com/beyonces-cowboy-carter-is-a-masterful-love-letter-to-countrys-black-roots/ Sun, 31 Mar 2024 06:11:00 +0000 https://hotpoptoday.com/?p=13040 Beyoncé never shied away from experimenting with different genres, but her decision to embrace country was a true stroke of genius.
