]]>2023 has been a breakout year for Peso Pluma, and he’s ending it on a high note. He single-handedly popularized regional Mexican music, and his latest song “Rompe La Dompe” saw him joining forces with Junior H and Óscar Maydon.
The rest of our list for the week mostly consists of alternative artist who are still searching for their first big hit. During slow weeks for new music releases, we tend to shed light on rising stars who are still making a name for themselves but still deserve a spot on your playlist.
Winona Oak has been one of our favorites for quite some time, and she knocked us off our feet again with the soaring ballad “Fragile Thing”. English singer Rhodes, TikTok sensation Baby Storme, and the Afroswing artist Myles Smith also made it to our list this week, along with the DJ Lost Frequencies who joined forces with Bastille for “Head Down”

]]>The band’s latest video was directed by Crooked Cynics, and it shows singer Dan Smith sitting on an old sofa in a dimly lit room. As the camera spins around him, we see he’s surrounded by unconscious bodies, looking for meaning in all this madness.
Judging by what we’ve heard so far, Doom Days will be much darker than Bastille’s previous studio efforts, but they’ll probably manage to find the right balance between reflective and hopeful tunes at the end of the day.
Doom Days will come out on June 14th, and the band will use it to explore the importance of escapism, hope and the preciousness of close friendships. Before sharing the video for “Those Nights”, Bastille dropped equally impressive visuals for new songs “Doom Days” and “Joy.”

]]>The track shares a name with the band’s upcoming album. The lyrics criticize our overuse of technology and get pretty dark and hopeless. They are also pretty self-deprecating.
You can watch the official video here:
“We wanted to really cement what is that you might be trying to escape,” Smith told NME. “So if the album is about a night out and it’s about escapism, I think we got to the end of the process and felt like it was really important to identify quite specifically what these modern anxieties that we all face are. Some of which feel really serious and oppressive and some of which are kind of ridiculous and mundane.”
He added: “It just felt really important coming off the back of the last album that we’d done – addressing escapism and addressing hedonism as a tool to avoid the things in the world and in the news and in your life, like your own personal daily worries. It just felt like we needed to be quite real with it.
“So I wanted to write this rolling script of these worries and take the p**s out of it and poke fun at ourselves. I’m one of the worst people for being glued to my phone. Anyone that spends time with me will know that and everyone is constantly ripping me for it, which is completely fair enough cos it’s a bit awful. So I wanted to address that.”
Doom Days will be released on June 14 this year.

]]>The upcoming album explores the idea of the “apocalyptic house party”. It will also experiment with gospel choirs and isn’t afraid to get dark and personal.
Frontman Dan Smith has spoken about the new single and has confirmed that it will come at the end of the album. It’s about waking up after a wild night and feeling your worries come rushing back.
“Joy is the moment at the end, almost that moment of redemption when you wake up on the kitchen floor and all of the anxieties come flooding in,” Smith told NME. “Something as simple as a call or a message from somebody can bring you back at that moment and rip the p**s out of you, make you feel ridiculous for the state you were in.”
Keyboardist Kyle Simmons added: “It’s the song that’s most obviously influenced by our re-orchestrated tour. The gospel singers are over the entire track. It’s crazy and to have it as the second most important on the track, that’s something we wouldn’t have done before,” explained keyboardist Kyle Simmons.”
He added: “It’s also a relatively happy song, the first in all the albums which is vaguely positive!”
Bastille will be hitting multiple festivals this summer.

]]>The music video for their new single isn’t exactly plot-driven, but that’s not stopping it from being powerful. The dark video shows the lead vocalist Dan Smith directly addressing the audience and delivering a hard-hitting message.
Unlike the rest of Bastille’s catchy and lighthearted tunes, this in us pretty harrowing and unlike anything they’ve released before. Shortly after dropping the single, Smith sent an email to fans of the band and explained how “Doom Days” came about.
“We wanted it to be really direct and talk about trying to find escapism from our modern anxieties – phone addiction, porn addiction, fake news addiction, climate change denial… Ultimately it’s about switching off for the night,” wrote Smith.
“Doom Days” will be featured on the band’s third studio album of the same name, but the are yet to share information about its release date.
