After the release of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino and subsequent tour, the members of Arctic Monkeys have taken a break and focused on other ventures. The band’s drummer Matt Helders decided to use the time off for his solo project, and is currently working on a new album. The list contains a whole array of music artists, from Nina Simone, Nino Rota, and Ennio Morricone to Marvin Gaye, The Stills-Young Band, Rolling Stones, and Joe Cooker. Turner ended his note with: “Danny, In the words of Joe Cocker. Rock on in one way or another. All The Best.”

In case you want to listen to the songs that Alex Turner used as an inspiration for Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, the Monkeys fans have already made a Spotify playlist that you can check out below.
The interesting thing about the Arctic Monkeys’ new record were the rumors that Alex Turner wrote the songs included on Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino for his solo album but ended up changing his mind. The 32-year-old musician decided to set the record straight in his recent interview with Germany’s Intro.
“I was never interested in making a solo album,” said Turner. “I am a part of this band and one would disrespect the other. Nevertheless, I wanted to make this music, it was in me. When you compose on the piano, you automatically get different results than on the guitar. And it was important to me to say goodbye to the realism of most of the Arctic Monkeys stuff.”

]]>Also, in a recent interview with Mojo, the band’s frontman Alex Turner confirmed the information, adding that we have guitarist Jamie Cook to thank for this decision.
“Jamie was really keen on that idea, and I guess people at Domino,” said Turner. “But it didn’t come from me. I understand it, I think.”
Although Arctic Monkeys won’t be revealing new songs, Turner decided to share the opening lyrics of the first song from Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino, “Star Treatment”:
“I just wanted to be one of the Strokes, now look at the mess you made me make/Hitchhiking with a monogrammed suitcase, miles away from any half-useful imaginary highway.“
“That’s me writing about writing,” Turner explained the lyrics. “Did the Strokes line feel too close to home? Yeah, absolutely. But you can’t let that stop you.”
Rolling out on May 11th, 2018, Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino will be Arctic Monkeys’ sixth studio album. The album was produced by Alex Turner and band’s longtime collaborator James Ford.
So far, it looks like Arctic Monkeys didn’t hit a home run with Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. Few media releases (Mojo and Uncut) who managed to get their hands on the full version of the album gave it a positive review but noted that the band’s new sound doesn’t deliver the same excitement like 2013’s AM.
