]]> The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Sweden next year, and the participating countries are slowly choosing their representatives. Years & Years’ singer Olly Alexander has been chosen to represent the United Kingdom at the next edition of Eurovision.

Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true for Alexander, and he promised he’s going to give it everything he’s got and put on an excellent and unforgettable performance.

“As a young boy, I always looked forward to this incredible event of unbridled joy, the wonderfully chaotic mix of musical styles, theatrical performances, heartfelt emotion, and humor. I really can’t believe I’m going to be a part of such a special legacy,” said Alexander in a statement.

Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment at the BBC, described Alexander as “the perfect ambassador for the UK as both an immensely talented and world-renowned artist and passionate fan of the competition.”

Alexander is best known as the singer of the pop band Years & Years, which has been operating as his solo project for the past two years. He achieved two No. 1 albums in the UK under this moniker, including Communion and Night Call, in addition to topping the singles chart with their breakout hit “King”.

]]> After a decade spent by each other’s side, the members of Years & Years are going their separate ways—but not in the way you think. Years & Years still isn’t going anywhere, but it will continue its musical journey as an Olly Alexander solo project.

According to the official statement released by the band, Mikey Goldsworthy will still be present during live performances, while Emre Türkmen intends to focus on his work as a writer and producer.

“There’s been some changes that we want to fill you in on. This upcoming new album has been an Olly endeavor and we’ve decided that Years & Years will continue as an Olly solo project. The three of us are still good friends,” reads the statement.

Before announcing their separation, Years & Years released two albums as a trio—Communion from 2015 and Palo Santo from 2018. They also topped the charts in the UK with the hit single “King”, and made it to the top 10 with “Shine”, “If You’re Over Me”, and the Jax Jones collaboration “Play”. After deciding to go solo, Alexander is planning to drop new music under the Years & Years moniker later this spring.

]]> Manchester Pride just unveiled its lineup for the upcoming edition of the popular festival, and they’ve really outdone themselves this time around. Ariana Grande was announced as a headliner, shortly after she informed her fans she’ll be giving a “special performance” in this city.

Manchester Pride will take place between August 23 – 26, and the line-up includes several queer artists. Years & Years will also be in charge of headlining the event, and they’ll be joined by a number of impressive performers, including Kim Petras and Bananarama.

Ariana Grande and the city of Manchester were bound together in tragedy on May 22, 2017, after a horrific attack outside Manchester Arena. Two weeks later, the young singer hosted a benefit concert for the victims of the attack called One Love Manchester.

Grande spent the aftermath of the attack visiting survivors and getting in touch with the families of the deceased. The singer needed to do something for people who were affected, because she didn’t want to feel like they died in vain.

“The last thing I would ever want is for my fans to see something like that happen and think it won. Music is supposed to be the safest thing in the world. I think that’s why it’s still so heavy on my heart every single day,” said Grande during an interview with Time Magazine.

]]> Sziget Festival unveiled their epic line-up all the way in November, but it seems they’ve got much, much more in store. Second wave of headliners has just been announced and it features the likes of Post Malone and Franz Ferdinand.

The first edition of Sziget Festival took place in Budapest, Hungary all the way back in 1993. This event has since transformed into one of the most prominent European festivals. Its growing popularity provided the organizers with an opportunity to book dozens of acclaimed performers, and they did it once again this year.

Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine, Foo Fighters and Twenty One Pilots have been announced as headliners a few months ago, but they won’t be the only ones.  Second wave of performers includes several equally impressive names, starting with Post Malone, Franz Ferdinand and Years & Years.

The list doesn’t end there and it also includes Tove Lo, James Blake, IAMDDB and Razorlight. Sziget Festival 2019 will take place from August 7-13 on the idyllic island Óbudai-sziget, located north of Budapest.
