]]>The group announced they are releasing a special reissue of their sophomore album De Stijl, which will feature some enticing content. The reissue, titled “The Accompaniment to De Stijl: The White Stripes’ Sophomore Album” will be available as part of the Third Man Records subscription service.
According to the press release, besides the original album, the set will contain double vinyl that will feature previously unreleased recordings and rare live performances. There will be alternate versions of the familiar songs as well as covers including AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock” and “Dog Eat Dog.” Extra content will include a booklet accompanied by handwritten lyrics.
“Only recently discovered in the basement of Stripes’ archivist, Ben Blackwell, these recordings, many with alternate and unused lyrics, were completely forgotten by White, yet form a pivotal foundation and structure on which the De Stijl album would build from,” said the record company of the release.
The White Stripes previously released the concert film of their final performance together as well as 20th Anniversary Box Set.

]]>The show took place on July 31, 2007, in Snowden Grove – on the border of Tennessee and Mississippi. It contained 24 songs, including “Icky Thump,” “As Ugly as I Seem,” “Wasting My Time,” “John the Revelator,” and “Death Letter.” “Boll Weevil” was the song that closed the show – and ultimately the Garage Rock Duo live performance career.
Ben Blackwell, who serves as an archivist for The White stripes recalls that he himself learned that the show was to be the last one of the duo only minutes before they went on stage. “Meg said to me, ‘I think this is the last White Stripes show.’”, he says. “Confused, I responded ‘Well, yeah, last show of this leg of the tour.’ She replied ‘No… I think this is the last White Stripes show ever,’ and slowly walked away.”

]]>Third Man Studios shared the reissue via social media Wednesday.
“1999 was a pivotal year for the White Stripes. From recording their first album through rumors of the band’s demise and embarking on their first-ever tour, the band worked extremely hard and was fortunate to see small but incremental gains from their efforts. Third Man Records is humbled to explore the depths of the band, their self-titled album and the entirety of their 1999 for our 42nd Vault package, THE WHITE STRIPES XX.”
THE WHITE STRIPES XX, newly remixed by White includes previously unheard outtakes from the original recording sessions, a live LP of the band’s performance at The Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina, a DVD of their two performances in Michigan that year, and a book filled with archival photos.
The deadline to sign up for the package is October 31.
