]]>This week marked the release of Gunna’s surprise new album A Gift & A Curse, and one of its best songs “Back to the Moon” made it to our list. If you’re a fan of a stronger sound, Queens of the Stone Age also dropped a new album and impressed us with the song “Straight Jacket Fitting”.

]]>The Hives previously teased new music with a series of protest signs, asking such questions as, “Where is the new The Hives album?” They now officially announced its title The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons and revealed it will hit the shelves on August 11.
The album’s title is a clear reference to the band’s fictional sixth member Randy Fitzsimmons, and he’s been credited on all of the band’s original songs in the past.
“We’ve never had a leader because we always had the sixth member who was the brain of the band in the beginning. That was the guy who formed us, Randy Fitzsimmons. He’s still around. He’s a part of the creative process,” the band’s lead guitarist Nicholaus Arson previously told NME.
The band teased the album’s release by dropping the music video for the lead single “Bogus Operandi”. The spooky video sees them discovering Randy Fitzsimmons’ tombstone, only to find several tapes, suits, and a piece of paper bearing the words “The Death Of Randy Fitzsimmons” buried underneath.

]]>The Hives’ frontman Pelle Almqvist addressed the fans via video in which he revealed that he is currently recovering from what he thinks could be “COVID-19 infection.”
“Like us, a lot of you are now home with extra time on your hands,” – Almqvist continued. “And since shows are being postponed or canceled – like us, you may be missing the live rock show experience.”
According to Almqvist, the band has “quite a few shows saved in the vault” and will now share them with the fans.
The first show The Hives put up is their gig in Sydney’s The Metro, which took place back in 2009. The set was comprised mostly out of covers, with the group playing classics like Misfits’ “Hollywood Babylon,” The Rolling Stones’ “Beast of Burden,” and Billie Holiday’s “Stormy Weather.” They wrapped up the show with their 2007’s hit “Tick Tick Boom.”

The Hives have been touring extensively in recent years, but haven’t followed that up with new albums. Their latest release, Lex Hives, came in 2012, although they released a new single “I’m Alive” last year.
