St. Vincent is currently on tour across the United States in support of MassEducation, a collection of acoustic, piano-driven versions of the songs from her 2017’s album Masseduction. As part of the tour, the 36-year-old singer/songwriter made a stop in New York where she delivered an exceptional performance at Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Besides performing songs from MassEducation and some of her other classics, St. Vincent also delivered an amazing cover of Lou Reed’s song “Perfect Day” with the help of pianist Thomas Bartlett. In case you didn’t manage to attend the show, don’t worry. One fan was kind enough to capture this performance on camera and share it with us who were not there.

Check out the video below.

Lou Reed wrote “Perfect Day” in 1972 after he and his then-fiancée Bettye Kronstad spent a day in New York’s Central Park. The song became a part of Reed’s second solo album Transformer and included contributions from Mick Ronson and David Bowie. It became a big hit and was covered by various music acts since then including British pop-rockers Duran Duran and Scottish recording artist Susan Boyle. Reed himself also re-recorded the song in 2003 for his nineteenth studio album The Raven.

St. Vincent is one of the most intriguing music artists of today, and each of her live shows is something special. It wasn’t anything different on Tuesday when she took the stage at the INmusic festival.

Slowly navigating the audience through her biggest hits, St. Vincent looked comfortable on stage rocking her guitar. Everyone looked like they enjoyed every bit of the show, from St. Vincent – who was surprisingly joking around – to fans – who got drawn into the world of St. Vincent’s songs.

Still, there wasn’t much opportunity to catch a break after St. Vincent wrapped up the show with an acoustic version of “Prince Johnny.” While her performance was more than enjoyable, the highlight of the night was iconic Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds.

It was everything you would expect and then some more, at least for Cave’s fans. They know how to embrace the good and bad sides of his music.

The main selling point of this live show was the emotion he managed to translate to the audience. His movement on the stage, the change of mood in his voice and energy that’s bursting out of him during the show is a special thing to witness.

The audience was almost hypnotized by the “king of melancholy,” who was set to touch them as much as possible with his songs about birth, love, death and everything in between.

When we thought the show is over after a 10-minute long rendition of “Stanger Lee,” Cave decided to continue playing, which is a great rarity at music festivals. He topped already great show with songs “Push the Sky Away” and “Rings of Saturn,” and then finally sailed into the night, leaving the audience in awe.
