]]>Live in Brooklyn 2011 will take us back to August 2011, when Sonic Youth performed at the Williamsburg Waterfront in Brooklyn. They played a 17-song set in front of the Manhattan skyline, which included such songs as “Death Valley ’69”, “Sugar Kane”, and “Drunken Butterfly”.
Lee Ranaldo, the band’s guitarist, still has vivid memories of their last North American show, and he believes it’s quite fitting that it took place in New York City.
“The stage was facing the East River from the Williamsburg, Brooklyn, waterfront, and I recall the sun going down in the west during our set. It was a pretty magical, if kinda weird day. Fitting, somehow, that our ‘last show’ should be in NYC, our home and where it all began,” said Ranaldo in a statement.
Live in Brooklyn 2011 will be released on August 18 via Silver Current. The band released several live, compilation, and rarities albums since disbanding in 2011, following Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore‘s separation.

]]>The talented musician is formerly a member of the post-rock group, Sonic Youth. Following her time with the group, Gordon formed a new band with Ikue Mori and Bill Nace from DNA. The band was called Body/Head. Now, she has taken the bold step to go solo, for the first time ever.
“Why a solo record? And why now? I don’t know, but it wouldn’t have happened without the persistence of Justin Raisen,” she posed. “Living in LA the last few years it feels like home, but the transience of the place makes it feel sometimes like no home.”
The record will feature Gordon’s brand new single, “Sketch Artist”, which you can listen to here:
The track is dark, gritty and experimental. The only element that ties the track to the musician’s Sonic Youth days is her voice.

]]>The American alternative rockers are selling off a number of guitars, vinyl records, and other items previously owned and used by the band. This huge sale marks the 30th anniversary of the band’s cult fifth studio album Daydream Nation.
More than 200 pieces of Sonic Youth’s gear will be up for grabs, including Koa Travis Bean guitar owned by Lee Ranaldo, Gibson Firebird played by Thurston Moore and Jim O’Rourke, and Fender Telecaster Deluxe that was played by all three members of the band. If you are more into bass guitars, for the right kind of money you can own Kim Gordon’s blue Fender P-Bass and Fender Jazzmaster MIJ Moore. All of this and more will be available on Reverb starting October 30th.
As of October 24th, the band will also offer over 300 records on Reverb LP. Among the records, there will be never-before-available test pressings, out-of-print LPs, albums that belonged to the private collections of band members.
Besides guitars and records, you will also be able to own Sonic Youth show posters, rare photographs, and personal relics.
As part of the celebration of Daydream Nation’s 30th anniversary, the band will also release previously unheard live material as well as rare concert footage.
