Our weekly roundup of the hottest new songs is always one for the books, and our favorite artists truly outdid themselves this week. Everyone from Olivia Rodrigo and Hozier to Shakira and Cardi B has given us amazing new tracks, ranging from future chart-toppers to hidden gems.

This week marked the release of Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts (Spilled), the long-awaited deluxe edition of her latest studio album. This album gave us five amazing new songs, but “Obsessed” is shaping up to be another instant hit in Rodrigo’s impressive discography.

Metro Boomin and Future also made it to our list with “Like That” ft. Kendrick Lamar from their collaborative album We Don’t Trust You. Speaking of amazing collaborations, Shakira’s “Puntería” ft. Cardi B was released as the last single from her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.

If you’re a fan of indie music, don’t fret because we also made room for some of the favorite alternative artists on this week’s list. Kick things off by listening to Fletcher’s new album In Search of the Antidote, including our favorite song “Pretending”.

Hozier also returned to our list this week, along with Aurora, Girl in Red, Sabrina Carpenter, Maggie Rogers, and many more amazing artists whose songs deserve a spot on your playlist.

Hozier – “Too Sweet”

Olivia Rodrigo – “Obssesed”

Aurora – “Some Type of Skin”

Girl in Red & Sabrina Carpenter – “You Need Me Now?”

Maggie Rogers – “Sick of Dreaming”

Shakira, Cardi B – “Puntería”

Benson Boone – “Slow It Down”

Colombian music superstar Shakira received a big honor from her hometown of Barranquilla, both figuratively and literally. A giant statue of the “Waka Waka” singer was unveiled in Barranquilla this week, celebrating her musical success, charity work, and everything she has done for the promotion of her country.

The bronze statue was built by Colombian sculptor Yino Marquez and stands at 21.3 ft. It was inspired by Shakira’s look and signature dance pose from the music video “Hips Don’t Lie”. There is also a plaque at the base of the statue that features the inscription: “Hips that do not lie, a unique talent, a voice that moves masses” and mentions her foundation, Pies Descalzos.

Shakira shared several photos from the unveiling ceremony, which was attended by her parents, William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll, and Barranquilla mayor Jaime Pumarejo, on social media.

In a post shared on X (formerly known as Twitter), Shakira also thanked Marquez and his students for creating an “example of the enormous artistic talent of the people of my land”.

Shakira is currently busy working on her new studio album, the first since 2017’s El Dorado. According to the singer, the record will be heavily influenced by electronic music while also dipping into urban pop and rock genres. The album is expected to be released in 2024 and will be followed by a huge world tour.

2023 has been another history-making year for Latin music, and the Latin Grammy Awards return to celebrate the artist who made this possible. The ceremony took place in Spain this Thursday and Karl G and Shakira emerged as two of the biggest winners with three awards each.

Karol G walked away with the trophy for album of the year with Mañana Será Bonito, after beating the likes of Vida Cotidiana by Juanes and Play by Ricky Martin. This LP was also honored with the award for the best urban music album, while the Shakira collaboration “TQG” won her the award for the best urban fusion/performance.

Shakira came into the night as the only artist to score three song of the year nominations in a single year, and she won this award with “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. She also won the award for best pop song with Bzrp, who walked away with a total of three awards, and shared the trophy for best urban fusion/performance with Karol G for “TQG”.

Fall is finally here, and our favorite artists are kicking it off on a high note! From The National and Shakira to Doja Cat and Kylie Minogue, all our favorite artists were working overtime to give us some amazing new songs this week.

The National kicked the week off by dropping a surprise album Laugh Track on Monday, which serves as the companion piece to First Two Pages of Frankenstein. Its title single features Phoebe Bridgers and it’s one of the album’s standout songs.

Doja Cat’s Scarlet is definitely the most buzzed-about album to hit the shelves this Friday, and she created a lot of commotion while promoting it in the past few months. The album’s standard edition featured 15 tracks, including the newly released single “Agora Hills”.

Scarlet isn’t the only highly-anticipated new album to come out this week. Kylie Minogue built a lot of buzz for her new album Tension thanks to her viral hit “Padam Padam” and gave us several more amazing disco-inspired tracks including “Hold On to Now”.

The rest of our list for this week is equally remarkable and includes new music from Shakira, Blink-182, Troye Sivan, Bleachers, and Tom Odell.

Doja Cat – “Agora Hills”

Kylie Minogue – “Hold On To Now”

Shakira, Fuerza Regida – “El Jefe”

The National – “Laugh Track (feat. Phoebe Bridgers)”

Blink-182 – “One More Time”

Troye Sivan – “Got Me Started”

Bleachers – “Modern Girl”

Holly Humberstone – “Into Your Room”

Tom Odell – “Black Friday”

Emeli Sandé – “How Were We To Know”

This prestigious award is meant to celebrate the “outstanding contributions” and “profound impact” that one trailblazing artist left on the music industry and popular culture at large. Shakira perfectly encapsulates these values, according to Paramount’s president of music, Bruce Gillmer.

“Shakira is a true global force who continues to inspire and influence the masses with her unique, musical prowess. She’s a trailblazer for women around the world & one of the first artists to lead the globalization of Latin music,” said Gillmer in a statement.

2023 has been a year to remember for Shakira, largely thanks to the success of her viral, record-breaking hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”. She also dropped singles “Acróstico” and “Copa Vacía” ft. Manuel Turizo, and collaborated with Karol G on “TQG”.

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards will take place on September 12, and Shakira is expected to perform a medley of her biggest hits. She’s the first South American artist to receive the ceremony’s highest honor, following in the footsteps of Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, and Jennifer Lopez.

Summer is heating up and our favorite artists are welcoming the new season on a high note. New songs by Olivia Rodrigo, Shakira, Lil Uzi Vert, and Charli XCX are here to spice up your week and take your summer playlist to new heights.

Olivia Rodrigo’s long-awaited comeback single “Vampire” is definitely the week’s most exciting new release. The young singer used it to set the tone for her sophomore studio album Guts, which she officially announced about a week before sharing this song with the world.

As far as new albums go, none created more buzz than Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape. The rapper’s new LP features collaborations with Travis Scott, Bring Me The Horizon, Don Toliver, and Babymetal, but none of them compares to the Nicki Minaj duet “Endless Fashion”.

Soundtracks for Barbie and The Idol made another appearance on our list this week. Charli XCX’s long-awaited Barbie song “Speed Drive” is here, and it exceeded our wildest expectations. Suzanna Son remains the best thing about The Idol soundtrack and she joined forces with The Weeknd and Lil Baby for “False Idols” this time around.

Check out the rest of our list to discover new music by Bad Bunny, Shakira, Nothing But Thieves, Jon Batiste, and many more.

Olivia Rodrigo – “Vampire”

Lil Uzi Vert & Nicki Minaj – “Endless Fashion”

Tainy & Bad Bunny – “Mojabi Ghost”

Shakira, Manuel Turizo – “Copa Vacía”

The Weeknd, Lil Baby, Suzanna Son – “False Idols”

Charli XCX – “Speed Drive”

The Japanese House – “Touching Yourself”

Jon Batiste – “Calling Your Name”

A collaboration between Cardi B and Shakira sounds like a dream come true—and it might happen really soon! The duo is reportedly working on a new song together and they could end up giving us a huge summer banger if the rumors are true.

According to the official website of the BMI record label, a song titled “Estoy Lamida” is registered under both of their names. Artists and their record labels register upcoming music in preparation for a release on BMI’s website, suggesting that this high-profile collab could be legit.

The duo is yet to confirm these rumors, but the idea isn’t far-fetched considering they seem to have a ton of respect for each other. Shakira performed Cardi B’s song “I Like It” alongside Bad Bunny at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show, and the Bronx rapper said it was crazy to witness this moment because she grew up listening to her music.

Releasing a splashy collaboration just in time for the summer would make total sense for Cardi B since she hasn’t dropped any new music since the start of 2023. Shakira, on the other hand, has been pretty busy since the start of the year – she broke several records with the viral hit “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” and recently released a solo single “Acróstico”.

Shakira made quite a splash with her new song “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53”, which became a viral sensation shortly after its release. This catchy tune set several YouTube and Spotify records in its wake, and the Colombian superstar took to Instagram to thank the fans for their support.

“Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” accumulated 50 million views in just 24 hours, scoring the biggest debut for any Latin song in YouTube history. It also became the fastest Latin video to reach 100 million YouTube views 72 hours after its release.

The song did just as great on Spotify, easily topping the Spotify Daily Global 200 chart following its release. With 14.3 million views on its first day, it set the record for the highest debut for a Spanish song in the platform’s history.

Shakira celebrated the song’s success in an emotional post on social media, seemingly confirming that the lyrics are inspired by the fallout of her relationship with the Spanish footballer Gerard Piqué.

“I want to embrace the millions of women who stand up to those who make us feel insignificant. Women who stand up for what they feel and think, and raise their hand when they disagree, while others raise eyebrows. They are my inspiration,” wrote Shakira on Instagram.

This year is looking a bit bright—Shakira may be giving us new music.

The Colombian singer teased new music was on the way with a behind-the-scenes photo in the recording studio wearing a red tracksuit matching her newly dyed red hair. “Cooking something!” she captioned the post.

Fans were quick to invade the comment section with messages like, “finally, we can’t wait,” “every day closer, we’re waiting for you” and “S12 is coming,” with the latter referring to a possibility of Shakira’s 12th studio album following 2017’s El Dorado.

Shakira and Black Eyed Peas “Girl Like Me”, just reached No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart this week, making it the singer’s 15th No. 1.

“I just found out we’re #1 at US Latin Billboard and I’m super grateful to all of you for all the support you’ve given to me and @BEP with this song, it would be nothing without you–love you guys so much!” she said in a video.

Google has unveiled its annual Year in Search List, which covers trending topics from several spheres of public life, including the music industry. Shakira was crowned as the most Googled musician of the year, while “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion was the most searched lyrics of 2020.

Shakira owes her success to her co-headlining spot at this year’s Super Bowl LIV halftime show. Around 103 million people tuned in to watch her perform alongside Jennifer Lopez, and the show led to many epic moments and viral memes that had people searching her name.

August Alsina, Adele, Doja Cat, and Grimes also made it to the top five, partly due to their music, and partly due to the personal drama going on in their life.

When it comes to the most-searched lyrics of the year, the smash hit “WAP” unsurprisingly topped the list. It was followed by Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” and Eminem’s “Godzilla”, featuring Juice Wrld.

Hip-hop songs were obviously leading the way, but we noticed another major trend. Several TikTok hits also made it to the top 10, including Jasmine Collins’ “This is for Rachel”, Conan Gray’s “Heather”, and Arizona Zervas’ “Roxanne”.

2023 has been another amazing year for Shakira, and her many accomplishments will be celebrated at this year’s MTV VMAs. The Colombian superstar has been announced as the latest recipient of the honorary Video Vanguard Award.
