]]>After a string of poignant, genre-defining releases and a tidal wave of awards, the Compton rapper is still managing to top his own career highs. Case in point: the wild success of DAMN., his most recent album. Though the release did go on to earn Pitchfork’s coveted “Album of the Year” title, the popularity of the album doesn’t solely reflect in its widespread critical acclaim.
Every single track on the record, without exception, saw sales numbers that other artists would be fortunate to see on the biggest singles of their career. While far from family-friendly, 50 Cent’s unofficial review of the record generally appeared to agree with its positive reception.
“I listened to that 4:44. I thought it was alright. I liked the s***,” begins 50. “But I’mma keep it a hundred, [the album] was a little too smart. I felt like I was supposed to be wearing like, glasses and tie like a sweater around my waist. It was like Ivy League s***.”
Say what you will, 50 Cent certainly does have a way with words.
The rapper-turned-entrepreneur also went on to discuss the relationship between up-and-coming hip-hop stars and more established acts, such as himself and Jay.
“You can’t be the best rapper at 47 because the new [rappers] are here. They coming with new s*** going on,” he said, humbly advocating for older acts to leave room for newcomers.
